FLES Grades 1-6 Extension

The Foreign Language in Elementary School (FLES) Grades 1-6 Extension is for certified world language teachers with a master’s degree interested in teaching foreign language in the elementary school, improving their FLES program, or simply improving their world language teaching using FLES methodologies.

  • What are the program requirements?

    Prerequisites for this program are for a certified world language teacher with: 

    • a valid base teaching certificate,
    • a master's degree,
    • fingerprint clearance. 

     

    This pathway does not require a practicum, field study, observations or student teaching. Teachers who are NYS certified do not need to complete student teaching again when they are applying for additional certification. For the full list of certification requirements in New York, visit the Office of Teaching Initiatives webpage. 

  • What course is required to become certified?
