Bilingual Education Extension Individual Pathway

The Individual Evaluation for Additional Certificate Pathway for Bilingual Education Extension offers participants a course of study that effectively prepares them to meet the New York State teacher certification and New York City licensing requirements. Molloy's program prepares teachers to serve the special needs of bilingual learners in multicultural and multilingual schools by assisting them in developing language and disciplinary literacy skills in two languages.The program offers intensive course work in language acquisition, bilingual education theory and methodologies, language arts and content area instruction and assessment for bilingual learners, grammatical and linguistic issues, cultural diversity, and research methodologies.

  • What are the program requirements?

    Prerequisites for this program are:

    • a valid base teaching certificate (e.g. Initial Childhood or Adolescent Education certification) in a content area other than TESOL or a modern language,
    • a master's degree,
    • a passing grade on BEA (Bilingual Education Assessment) 

     

    This pathway does not require a practicum, field study, observations or student teaching. Teachers who are NYS certified do not need to complete student teaching again when they are applying for additional certification. For the full list of certification requirements in New York, visit the Office of Teaching Initiatives webpage.
