State Aid Programs

For New York State residents in undergraduate programs only, the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) is a grant from the state that does not need to be repaid, administered by the Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) of New York State. 

The FAFSA must be completed before TAP*. Wait 3-5 business days after completing the FAFSA, then complete the TAP application HERE.

Molloy University's New York State School Code is 0500. 

Eligibility: For full-time students taking at least 12 credits per semester. See TAP eligibility criteria HERE. 

Renewal: Not automatic. Students must file the FAFSA and TAP Application each year, and demonstrate financial need. 

Amounts: $1,000 to $5,665, as determined by HESC based on eligibility. Offer amounts can change yearly.

The Senator Patricia K. McGee Nursing Faculty Scholarship is a scholarship from New York State for registered nurses, licensed in NYS, who are pursuing a graduate degree that leads to a career of nursing or adjunct clinical faculty. There is a service obligation post-graduation. 

Eligibility: See eligibility criteria HERE. 

Renewal: Not automatic. Students must file the FAFSA and TAP Application each year. Awards are granted based on the availability of funds with priority given to prior recipients. 

Amounts: Up to $20,000 annually or average cost of attendance for a graduate program at a state-operated SUNY, whichever is less. Awards are reduced by the amount of any other financial aid awards.

Service Obligation: 

• Recipients must agree to teach at least 12 academic credit hours, or its equivalent, as nursing faculty or as adjunct clinical faculty, per year for four years at an institution in New York State regardless of the number or amount of program awards made on your behalf.
• Teaching must commence within three years of completion of your graduate degree program.
• If you fail to fulfill your service obligation as outline in the Scholarship Contract, all award payments made on your behalf will convert to a 10-year student loan plus interest. Interest rate for the life of the loan shall be fixed and equal to that set annually by the U.S. Department of Education for federal Family Loan Program PLUS Loans at the time the Service Contract is signed.

The NYS Math and Science Teaching Incentive Program is a scholarship for full-time undergraduate or graduate students in approved programs at CUNY, SUNY, or private colleges pursuing careers as math and science teachers in secondary education (grades 7-12). There is a service obligation post-graduation. 

Eligibility: See eligibility criteria HERE. 

Renewal: Not automatic. Students must file the FAFSA and TAP Application each year. Awards are granted based on the availability of funds with priority given to prior recipients.

Amounts: Covers the cost of tuition, not to exceed the value of resident undergraduate tuition at a SUNY State-operated college. For 2026-2027 academic year, the award is equal to $7,070 per year ($3,535 per term) or actual tuition, whichever is less. Award is paid at the end of the academic year.

Service Obligation: 

• Recipients agree to teach full-time for five years, regardless of the number or amount of award payments received, in the field of math or science at a secondary school (grades 7-12) located in New York State.
• Teaching must commence within two years of completion of the degree program and receipt of initial certification.
• If you fail to fulfill your service obligation as outlined in the Scholarship Contract, all awards payments made on your behalf will be converted to a 10-year student loan plus interest. Interest rate for the life of the loan shall be fixed and equal to that set annually by the U.S. Department of Education for Federal Direct Loan Program PLUS Parent Loans at the time the Service Contract is signed.

The NYS Scholarships for Academic Excellence program awards scholarships of $500 and $1500 per year to students achieving academic excellence while in high school.

Eligibility: Initial awards are based on student grades on certain Regent's exams, and students are nominated by their high schools. Once in college, different eligibility criteria apply. See full eligibility criteria HERE.

Renewal: Not automatic. Students must file the FAFSA and TAP Application each year and meet eligibility requirements.

Amounts: $500 or $1500 per year.

The Veterans Tuition Award is for veterans with at least four years of active duty service and combat veterans pursuing an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, or vocational training program. 

Eligibility: See eligibility criteria HERE.

Renewal: Not automatic. Students must file the FAFSA and TAP Application each year.

Amounts: Award is equal to the annual undergraduate resident tuition rate at a SUNY state-operated campus or the actual tuition, whichever is less. For part-time study, awards will be prorated by credit hour. 

Military Enhanced Recognition Incentive & Tribute (MERIT) Scholarships are available to members of U.S. Armed Forces and their children, spouses, and financial dependents of members of the United States Armed Forces or state-organized militia who died or became disabled performing their military duties.

Eligibility: For full-time students. See full eligibility criteria HERE. 

Renewal: Not automatic. Students must file the FAFSA and TAP Application each year.

Amounts: Award covers the cost of attendance, not to exceed the average cost of attendance charged to NYS resident students at a state-operated SUNY college.

The World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship is a scholarship for children, spouses, and financial dependents of innocent victims who died or were severely and permanently disabled as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States.

Eligibility: For full-time students. See full eligibility criteria HERE. 

Renewal: Not automatic. NYS residents must file the FAFSA and TAP Application each year. (Out-of-state recipients will be required to complete the NYS Payment Application instead of the FAFSA and TAP Applications.)

Amounts: Award covers cost of attendance at a state-operated SUNY or the actual cost of attendance, whichever is less. Receipt of other grants and scholarships may reduce the award. The total of all aid received cannot be greater than the student's cost of attendance determined for federal Title IV student financial aid purposes.
