Molloy University Launches Health Informatics Program to Address Evolving Healthcare Needs
As healthcare organizations increasingly rely on data, technology, and digital systems to improve patient care, Molloy University is launching a new Master of Science (M.S.) in Health Informatics program within its School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
Developed in response to growing workforce demand, the program prepares healthcare and related professionals to lead data-driven innovations that improve quality, safety, efficiency, and patient outcomes across healthcare settings.
“This program reflects Molloy University’s commitment to responding to the evolving needs of the healthcare community with programs that are timely, relevant, and impactful,” said Dr. John Patro, Associate Dean for Health Sciences. “Healthcare data is only as powerful as the professionals interpreting and applying it. Our goal is to prepare graduates who can translate information into informed action that benefits patients, providers, and healthcare systems.”
Designed for working professionals, the 30-credit program is delivered in an online, synchronous, cohort-based format and can be completed in as few as three semesters. The program is open to applicants with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and welcomes professionals from a wide range of healthcare and related fields, including nurses, physicians, pharmacists, public health professionals, healthcare administrators, allied health professionals, social service professionals, and information technology specialists. This structure allows healthcare professionals to advance their education while continuing to serve in their careers, reinforcing Molloy’s commitment to expanding access to graduate education for today’s workforce.
The curriculum combines health information systems, clinical analytics, leadership, and informatics strategy with practical, hands-on learning experiences. Students complete more than 400 hours of practicum experience along with a capstone project that applies informatics theory to real-world healthcare challenges.
The program also emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, preparing graduates to work across healthcare teams to design and implement technology-driven solutions that improve patient care and organizational outcomes.
Aligned with leading professional organizations and industry standards, including CAHIIM, HIMSS, and the American Medical Informatics Association, the program equips graduates with the technical expertise and leadership skills needed in today’s rapidly evolving healthcare environment.
“Our students come to the program with valuable clinical and professional experience,” said Dr. Frieda Pemberton, Director of the Health Informatics Program. “We build on that foundation by giving them the tools to lead technology initiatives, improve workflows, and contribute to evidence-based solutions in an increasingly complex healthcare landscape.”
Graduates will be prepared for a variety of in-demand roles, including clinical informatics specialists, healthcare data analysts, informatics consultants, health information managers, and quality and patient safety specialists across hospitals, health systems, public health organizations, and private industry.
By introducing the Health Informatics program, Molloy University continues its commitment to preparing forward-thinking healthcare professionals who lead with competence, compassion, and innovation.
Applications are now open for the M.S. in Health Informatics program. Healthcare professionals interested in advancing their careers and shaping the future of healthcare are encouraged to apply or request additional details.
