Frequently Asked Questions about the Molloy/Cap 21 Musical Theatre Program

  • Q: Do we ONLY take Musical Theatre classes when we’re in NYC?

    A: No! Our MT students typically have studio classes 5 days a week on both the main Rockville Centre campus and at the Manhattan Center.  

    Our Molloy/CAP21 faculty members teach on both campuses, so students are able to get to know their studio professors very well!  

  • Q: What does a Day-In-The-Life look like for a CAP21 student?

    A: Depends on the day! Your “RVC” days will be a blend of General Education and Musical Theatre studio classes, and will feel more like a “typical” college campus experience.  

    Your “NYC” days are jam-packed with studio coursework in all disciplines – singing, dancing and acting – and will feel like a true urban conservatory experience.

    Oh, and once you’re IN the city, you stay there for the day! There is no “back-and-forth” between campuses throughout the day. It is EITHER a Main Campus day OR a Manhattan Center day. 

  • Q: Got it. Now, how many new students do you take into the CAP21 program each year?

    A: We aim for an incoming cohort of approximately 36 students, which is then divided into smaller sections to keep our studio class sizes focused and personalized. Class sizes typically range from 10-18, depending on the discipline, and Private Voice lessons are 1-on-1. 

  • Q: Can you tell me a little bit about the performance opportunities for Molloy/CAP21 students?

    A: Sure! Our first-year students focus on skill-building, and do not participate in curricular performances. They have the option to perform in student-led cabarets and will take part in performance “demos” over the course of each studio class.  

    Beginning sophomore year, students work on one required performance project each semester.  

    Juniors and seniors are eligible to audition for the Molloy/CAP21 Mainstage Productions and will perform in at least one Mainstage each semester.  

    All seniors - in addition to their Mainstage shows - will also participate in our Industry Showcase in NYC as their culminating performance.  

    Other performance opportunities include student-written and/or student-directed works, as well as concerts, holiday events and fully-staged works at the Madison Theatre.  

  • Q: Did you say that ALL seniors get to participate in the Senior Showcase?

    A: Yes! While some programs require students to audition in order to be a part of Showcase, Molloy/CAP21 actually requires seniors to prepare for and perform in our Industry Senior Showcase as a part of their training and curriculum.  

    Our Senior Showcase is extremely well-attended, and our talented students consistently receive great feedback and response from prominent industry professionals. 

  • Q: OK, I’m IN… or at least I’d like to be! What are my next steps for consideration?

    A: We work diligently to make the audition process as pain-free and positive as possible for you!
