A B.S. degree in Biology at Molloy will prepare you to meet the rigorous demands necessary to succeed in graduate studies, as well as in careers throughout the scientific research, teaching, medicine, dentistry fields and beyond. Careers in the Biological Sciences and Healthcare related fields are projected to experience significant growth and will outpace other occupational fields between 2020-2030 according to the Bureau of Labor & Statistics. * Our Molloy alumni have gone on to secure careers in all sectors of biological sciences and healthcare and have been accepted into prestigious Medical, Dental and Physician Assistant programs.

We offer three separate study tracks supported within the B.S. degree program in Biology:

  • Pre-Professional Medical Programs/Graduate Studies—prepares students for medical/dental/veterinary school or graduate studies.
  • Pre-Allied Medical Programs- prepares students for physician assistant, physical therapy, and occupational therapy graduate programs.
  • General Biological Sciences - emphasizes field experience for students, which is a substantial preparation for future job placement.

Our faculty-guided research series is a three-semester research experience working directly with faculty on a novel project. Students in the research series present at regional/national and international conferences and prepare a thesis ready for peer-reviewed journals.

State-the-Art Lab Equipment

As a biology major you will have access to our state-of-the-art research equipment. The National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Instrumentation Award gives our students access to state-of-the-art research instrumentation called the AxioObserver 7, Live-cell imaging system.

Molloy/Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Early Acceptance Program

Students can apply to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), the nation’s largest medical college, through our Molloy/LECOM Early Acceptance Program (EAP). EAP gives our students provisional acceptance into LECOM’s excellent medical school – before you even begin your undergraduate career. If you are considering a career in medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy, this unique program may be right for you.

LECOM Professional School (EAP) Program Description

The LECOM professional school Early Acceptance Program (EAP) allows qualified students that enroll at Molloy University as BS/Biology Pre Med, Pre-Dental or Pre-Pharmacy tracks to be given a provisional early acceptance to LECOM’s School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine or College of Osteopathic Medicine upon completion of a successful interview. A student may apply for EAP consideration as early as a high school senior and up until the start of the third year of undergraduate school. Students apply to enroll in the EAP by following the link “Early acceptance program Inquiry” found on the My LECOM Portal https://portal.lecom.edu LECOM will review the application. If the student meets the requirements, LECOM will offer the student a list of EAP interview dates to self-schedule an interview. Following a successful interview, LECOM will notify the student that they qualify for a provisional letter of acceptance from LECOM and they will be enrolled for participation in the EAP upon approval by the affiliated institution of their choice and submission of their school email address to LECOM. The student and the affiliated school will then be sent the provisional letter of acceptance.

Requirements for LECOM (EAP) Program

Additional requirements, including a final application to LECOM, must be met for final acceptance to LECOM, but another interview is not required. The specific criteria for acceptance into the programs will vary from school to school, but the general requirements are listed below:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (international students may apply to Pharmacy)
  • Must not hold a bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Must have at least two years remaining as a full-time student at the undergraduate institution.
  • SAT Score (Math and Verbal Reasoning) greater than or equal to 1170 on a single exam taken before 3/1/16, a SAT score of 1240 or higher on a single exam taken after 3/1/16 or an ACT. Composite score greater than or equal to 26 on a single exam.
  • A high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
  • Students already attending the affiliate institution must have at least a cumulative overall GPA of 3.4 and a science GPA of 3.2 or higher.
