Operating Room Training Program for RNs
Course number: NU0147
Tuition: $3000 (Payment Plan Available), $1000 Clinical Externship (Limited Placement, Optional)

There is anticipated to be continued growth and opportunities in perioperative nursing. We aspire to facility student success along their career path.

  1. Job Growth: Registered nurse positions, including those in the operating room, are expected to grow by 9% from 2020 to 2030, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which is faster than the average for all occupations.

  2. Career Paths: Perioperative nursing offers various career options, such as staff nurse, circulator, educator, and more, highlighting the versatility of the field.

  3. Unique Environment: The perioperative environment is distinct from other nursing specialties, with each day presenting new challenges and learning opportunities.

  4. Advocacy and Learning: Nurses in this field are primary advocates for patients and will continually learn due to the evolving nature of technology and healthcare practices.

  5. Course Structure: The course described offers a combination of classroom learning and clinical experiences, following the Peri-op 101 framework, designed to introduce nurses without prior operating room experience to the basic competencies required in perioperative nursing.

  6. Instruction: The course is taught by experienced professionals, including Periop Directors, Nurse Educators, Nurse Managers, and perioperative staff, ensuring that participants gain comprehensive and practical knowledge.

The course structure is designed to equip nurses with the necessary skills for operating room nursing, balancing both theoretical knowledge and practical clinical experience.

Online Learning Component:
  • Live Online Classes: The classroom portion will be conducted live via Zoom, allowing for real-time interaction and learning.
  • Flexible Access: Participants can join the course using any internet-connected device, including PCs, Macs, tablets, or smartphones.
  • Consistent Schedule: The online class schedule provides a structured and consistent educational experience.
  • Clinical Externship: Limited placement is an available option for an additional fee, but NOT required for certification.  Availability fluctuates based upon the circumstances of our partner institutions and therefore acceptance not guaranteed. Please note that the clinical is only offered during the week, not on weekends.

This approach makes the course accessible and convenient while maintaining the rigorous standards necessary to prepare nurses for the specialized field of perioperative nursing.
