Presenters' Bios:
Jan Mark Casco is a music therapist working primarily on an adult acute inpatient psychiatry unit at Mount Sinai West focusing on stabilization and rehabilitation. He is completing his Analytical Music Therapy training at Molloy University. He also works in multiple private practice locations.
Leah Hu is a board-certified music therapist currently working at a high-security forensic psychiatric facility operated by the California Department of State Hospitals. She facilitates trauma-informed music therapy groups with individuals navigating personality disorders, trauma histories, mood discarders, and forensic commitments. Her work focuses on using improvisation and symbolic musical dialogue to support emotional insight, containment, and recovery in high-risk clinical environments.
Tatyana N. Martin, MMT, LPMT, MT-BC is a board-certified music therapist from Pittsburgh, PA, but resides near Baltimore, Maryland. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Seton Hill University and Master of Music Therapy from Slippery Rock University. Working in the forensic psychology setting, she is a music therapist and rehabilitation director. Through a holistic perspective, she assists clients navigating the intersections of mental health, trauma, the legal system, and the community. Accessing inner resources as well as understanding oneself through music and dance/movement are at the heart of her clinical practice. Additionally, her service includes Co-Chair of the Maryland Music Therapy State Task Force and former Mid-Atlantic Region (MAR) Government Relations Chair.
Freddy Perkins, MMT, MT-BC is a board-certified music therapist and music therapy educator. He holds positions as a creative expressive arts facilitator at Charlie Health, an adjunct music therapy instructor at Slippery Rock University, and a youth center director at the LGBTQ Center of Durham. An advanced trainee in Analytical Music Therapy, Perkins has also completed training in narrative therapy and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from North Carolina Central University. With over 11 years of experience, Perkins has worked in diverse settings, including community mental health, schools, behavioral health and substance abuse clinics, and private practice. He has published and presented on sociocultural issues within music therapy and aspires to serve as a culturally conscious supervisor and clinician, specializing in trauma and identity work with LGBTQ+ individuals.
Akane Shiomi, MA, MT-BC (she/her) has completed advanced training in Analytical Music Therapy (AMT) at Molloy University. Akane has worked with children with intellectual/developmental disabilities in music therapy. Akane currently works in private practice and in a position of supervisor to promote special needs education at an educational center.
