Bookkeeping

Cupola atop a building on the Molloy University campus

This online certificate program teaches the full charge bookkeeping process from beginning to end. Students will become proficient in the practical application of all accounting processes in small to-mid-sized businesses by mastering the principles of full charge bookkeeping. The courses are not conducted "live". You are able to log-in at any time to take your lessons. New sessions start every month or even on demand, so you can sign up anytime.

To earn the Certificate in Bookkeeping students need to complete and pass the courses: Accounting Fundamentals I and Accounting Fundamentals II. The individual courses are $129 for each course. They are both offered in one bundle: Bookkeeping Certificate Program Tuition: $230. Therefore, you save $28 by registering for the bundle. Once you register for the certificate program you will be registered for both courses.

There is a third course that is recommended, but not required for the certificate, Introduction to QuickBooks Tuition: $139. This course should be taken last. The reason that it is recommended and not required is that while QuickBooks is the most widely used Bookkeeping software used in most firms, it is not used in all firms. If you are employed you should check to see what computerized bookkeeping software is used in your firm. If you are not employed and want to have a good background in computerized bookkeeping them you should take the QuickBooks course.

We offer both instructor led and self-paced course options.  Instructor-Led courses are designed for structured group learning. These courses feature an instructor-moderated discussion board so you can interact with your session cohort. However, while there is an instructor for the course, the course is not conducted “live”. You can go in at any time to take the course. Therefore, there are no times for an instructor led course. Self-Paced Tutorial courses are designed for completely independent learning, without instructor moderation or group discussion. Neither platform is conducted “live”- you can login at any time to take the courses.

Instructor Lead Courses:
Instructor-Led courses operate on rolling monthly basis that run for six weeks, with an available 10-day extension period at the end, and most take an average of 24 hours to complete. While there is an instructor for the course, the course is not conducted “live”. You can go in at any time to take the course. One lesson is released every Wednesday and Friday for the six-week duration of the course. You do not have to be present when lessons are released. You will have access to all lessons until the course ends. However, the interactive Discussion Area that accompanies each lesson will automatically close two weeks after the lesson is released. Thus, we strongly recommend that you complete each lesson within two weeks of its release.

Your lessons will include text-based practical instruction, illustrated examples, audio files if needed, and supplemental material that your instructor thinks you'll find helpful or interesting.

Your lessons will also be accompanied by an assignment that will help you gain practical first-hand experience with the new skills taught in the course. These assignments will be optional and self-evaluating. However, some course topics will require feedback from your instructor, which will be provided within the Discussion Area of the classroom. Each time you complete a lesson, you will also be asked to take a brief multiple-choice quiz. The interactive multiple-choice quizzes are designed to test your comprehension of the course material. When you complete a quiz, you will receive an instant analysis of your work.

The six-week, 12-lesson format used in instructor-led courses gives you an optimal amount of time to read, reflect upon, and apply the material you will find in each lesson. We've found that the pace we use leads to the highest possible levels of completion and student satisfaction. In addition, this classroom is built around a set of 12 interactive Discussion Areas that permit students to ask and answer questions related to the 12 lessons that make up the course. The interactions in the Discussion Area are richer and more rewarding when all students are progressing through the course at the same pace, as in an on-campus course.

Instructor-led courses conclude with a final exam, which tests your comprehension of the material covered in the class. You must complete the final exam within two weeks of the release of Lesson 12. Although the final exam answers can be submitted multiple times, only the first submission counts. Your performance on the final exam is the only factor we will consider when determining your eligibility for a certificate of completion.

Instructor-led course classrooms close after the end date of the course, and you will not be able to enter the classroom again after it closes. Printer-friendly versions of each lesson are available to you so you can keep copies of lesson text, assignments, supplementary material, and FAQs for future reference.

Self-Paced Courses:
Self-Paced Tutorial courses are open enrollment, meaning you can enroll and start a course any time it is convenient. After enrolling, you will receive all lessons immediately and have three months access to complete the course content. Self-Paced Tutorial courses do not have extensions.

Course and Program Certificates
A course certificate of completion is given out after each of the two courses and then after the second course a  Bookkeeping Certificate is given. The course certificates are generated automatically, but for the Bookkeeping Certificate you need to email our records coordinator, Danielle Albanese at: dalbanese1@molloy.edu to request it.
