Artificial Intelligence
Certificate Program in Artificial Intelligence Fundamentals
New this Fall! Molloy University will be offering an online, non-credit course in AI Fundamentals through its Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies featuring materials from CompTIA’s AI Essentials suite.
Designed for absolute beginners, this class provides a foundational baseline for integrating artificial intelligence into everyday workflows without requiring any technical prerequisites or coding experience. This is a hands-on course for non-technical learners that need a scalable way to build AI literacy. You’ll learn how to use AI safely, effectively, and responsibly, design and improve prompts, evaluate outputs, apply AI to real tasks, and validate your skills with a CompTIA CompCert.
Key Learning Objectives
Through a mixture of short multimedia lectures, readings, and active conversational exercises, participants will learn how to safely and efficiently turn artificial intelligence into a workplace collaborator.
- Understand how AI works and where it applies: Learn how modern AI systems, including generative AI and chatbots, work at a conceptual level. The course covers where AI is used across industries and job roles, helping you recognize appropriate use cases and understand the limitations of AI tools before relying on them.
- Use AI responsibly and ethically: AI Fundamentals goes beyond awareness. Learn to recognize and manage AI risks, apply responsible and ethical practices, and maintain academic integrity and transparency when using AI. Human accountability is central to every applied exercise in the course.
- Design and refine effective prompts: Practice designing prompts that get results, then refine them using context, conversational follow-up, and quality evaluation techniques. This is a hands-on skill set, not just a conceptual overview, built through applied exercises inside CompTIA's AI labs.
- Evaluate and improve AI outputs: Develop the judgment to assess AI-generated content for accuracy, bias, and quality. The course teaches a repeatable process for critically evaluating outputs and refining results, skills that apply across writing, research, communication, and decision-making tasks.
- Apply AI to real academic and workplace tasks: From writing and communication to studying, analysis, and thought partnership, get practice using AI tools on tasks you will actually encounter. The course is designed to build applied capability, not just familiarity.
- Understand AI-enabled automation and agents: The course introduces AI agents: what they are, when to use them, and how to work with them. Learn to translate work into AI-powered workflows and build an understanding of how agents work and are controlled by humans. High-level safety, security, and performance evaluation are all covered.
