The SCC utilizes the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) model. Unlike traditional therapy, SFBT is short-term and focused on helping students to resolve or effectively manage a specific issue or challenge; or to make a particular desired change.  The therapy is intervention, emphasizing students' strengths, to help them achieve  specific and well-defined goals.

Students who would benefit from longer-term counseling, intensive support, or some other mental health expertise not offered through the SCC will be referred to an appropriate off-campus provider.

The SCC offers a variety of short-term counseling and psychoeducational services. Services include:

  • Individual Counseling
  • Couples Counseling
  • Support Groups
  • Wellness Workshops
  • On-Campus Training
  • Student Mental Health Consultations for Faculty and Staff
  • Crisis Intervention

Services

The SCC offers a variety of short-term counseling and psychoeducational services.

*These SCC services are offered only to currently enrolled Molloy University students. A currently enrolled Molloy University student is defined as someone that (a) has a primary role on-campus as a student, not as an employee, and (b) has been accepted to Molloy University through the admissions process and is currently enrolled for classes in the same semester they are seeking SCC services. An exception to this rule applies when a student is enrolled for Fall classes and is seeking counseling services over the summer break.

  • Individual Counseling *

One-on-one counseling provides the opportunity to speak freely and discuss private, personal issues. Students say they gain a wider perspective and develop more options for dealing with stressful situations and feelings. The SCC utilizes the Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) model. Unlike traditional therapy, SFBT is short-term and focused on helping students to resolve or effectively manage a specific issue or challenge; or to make a particular desired change.

We encourage you to come in for an initial appointment to talk about how counseling might be helpful and to discuss any questions you have about how counseling works. Some students are helped in one visit, while others come to counseling for several weeks or longer.  Students who would benefit from longer-term counseling, intensive support, or some other mental health expertise not offered through the SCC will be referred to an appropriate off-campus provider.  Counseling services are offered in-person and via telehealth.

  • Group Counseling *

Groups offer the opportunity to learn new skills and to share your concerns in a safe environment by meeting with other students. Some groups are focused on a common concern, such as test anxiety, relationships, transitions, and stress reduction.

  • Couples Counseling *

Married and unmarried students are welcome to come; both members must be currently enrolled students at Molloy.

  • Workshops and On-Campus Trainings

Workshops focus on learning new skills to enhance personal well-being and academic success. Previous workshops include test anxiety, stress management, suicide prevention, alcohol and other drugs awareness and prevention. On-campus trainings are available to faculty and staff to assist them in referring students to the SCC and addressing students' mental health needs. Trainings also include psychoeducational materials.

  • Off-Campus Referral Services

Individuals that need longer-term, intensive treatment and/or who present with issues beyond the scope of our office will be referred to appropriate treatment services off campus. Referrals are also provided for students who opt not to use our services.
