Health Services FAQ

Cupola atop a building on the Molloy University campus

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I report illness?

To help protect the entire campus, we ask that you let Health Services know if you test positive for COVID-19 or the flu. We do not, however, notify your faculty regarding your absence.

  • Does the university offer health insurance to students?

All full-time undergraduate students are required and are automatically enrolled and charged for Student Medical Insurance offered through the University. If you are already covered by similar or better coverage, you can waive this insurance requirement. You must waive the insurance EVERY YEAR BY OCTOBER 1. To waive the requirement, log into your Lion’s Den account; choose the My Finances tab; go to “Waive Your Student Medical Insurance” and click on “Student Medical Insurance Plan.” You will be asked to provide information pertaining to your existing medical insurance.
The alternate insurance plan must meet all of the following criteria for students to waive Molloy University Student Medical Plan. The waiver application will be denied if the plan does not provide all of the following:
    · Routine, non-emergency care as well as emergency care (medical and mental) provided in the NY metropolitan area
    · Treatment for pre-existing conditions (with no waiting periods or exclusions)
    · Plan has a claims administrator based in the U.S., a U.S. telephone number and address for submission of claims, and the insurance policy must have been issued in the U.S.
    · Active coverage from the day the student arrives on campus through the end of their academic/collegiate sport program as evident by uploading insurance card without expired date.

  • Does Health Services provide excuse notes?

If a student is seriously injured or ill and requires emergency care or admission to the hospital, Health Services will contact the Office of Academic Affairs for the student as per student’s request and consent. Health Services does not provide excuse notes for absences from class. If a student misses class due to illness, the student must contact their professor according to class policies.
