Health Services FAQ

Cupola atop a building on the Molloy University campus

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do I report illness?

To help protect the entire campus, we ask that you let Health Services know if you test positive for COVID-19 or the flu. We do not, however, notify your faculty regarding your absence.

  • Does the university offer health insurance to students?

To help ensure that all students have access to quality healthcare while enrolled, all full-time undergraduate students are automatically enrolled in and charged for the University's Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).
If you already have comparable or better health insurance coverage, you may waive the University's insurance plan. Please note that the waiver process will open on July 15 and must be completed every academic year by October 1. If you do not complete a waiver, you will be enrolled in SHIP and premium will be charged to your student account.
Beginning this year, Molloy’s SHIP will be serviced by Academic HealthPlans (AHP). AHP offers comprehensive student health insurance brokerage and plan administration services to colleges and universities. Wellfleet will continue to be the insurance carrier for the 2026-2027 academic year.
This change does not impact your insurance coverage for the remainder of the 2025-2026 plan year. Starting 7/1/2026 AHP will host a website at molloy.myahpcare.com where students can review benefits and cost, search for providers, and access your portal to submit a waiver.

    · Provide routine, non-emergency medical care as well as emergency medical and mental health services within the New York metropolitan area.
    · Be compliant with the requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
    · Be administered by a U.S.-based claims administrator with a U.S. telephone number and mailing address for claims submission.
    · Be issued in the United States.
    · Demonstrate active coverage from the student's arrival on campus through the end of the academic year (or collegiate sport program, if applicable), as verified by a current, unexpired insurance card.

  • Does Health Services provide excuse notes?

If a student is seriously injured or ill and requires emergency care or admission to the hospital, Health Services will contact the Office of Academic Affairs for the student as per student’s request and consent. Health Services does not provide excuse notes for absences from class. If a student misses class due to illness, the student must contact their professor according to class policies.
