"You Represent Our Future"

Robert Catell, Recipient Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, member of Molloy University President’s Advisory Council

Robert Catell, recipient Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, member of Molloy University President’s Advisory Council, speaking at Molloy University's CommencementPresident Lentini, and the Board of Molloy University, I would like to thank you for awarding me a Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.

It is truly an honor to be recognized by this fine University which I have had a long association with.  While I am not a graduate of Molloy, I have been a friend and supporter since my time on Long Island. Molloy provides an excellent education based on Christian values and beliefs, and I am proud to have my granddaughter, Caitlin Kenna, in the graduate program of education.

I am a great believer in the value of a college education and credit a lot of what I have been able to achieve to my excellent education at City College of New York. I had a very rewarding career in the energy utility industry and continue to stay involved in the energy research field.

I was raised by a single parent, my mother, who taught me about respecting people regardless of race, religion, or station in life.  She also taught me about the importance of helping those in need when able to do so. I am blessed by having fourteen wonderful grandchildren who I try to set an example for by doing the right thing in every aspect of their lives.

I would like to conclude by congratulating all the graduates of Molloy’s Class of 2025 and to encourage you to make a difference in the world going forward.

You represent our future.  I encourage you to use the education you have received here, because it is based upon a unique mission, to make a special contribution.  You are called to use your Molloy education, not just for personal attainment, but to see the challenges in the world around us, and to be voices of light and hope and change.  I have every confidence that you will do just that!

Thank you very much.
