Winter Holidays

Travel Screening

  • All employees and students who have recently traveled or who are planning to travel outside of the state of New York, must complete this form. This applies to all international travel as well as out-of-state domestic travel, unless such travel is to a state that is contiguous to New York (i.e., New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont). Individuals traveling to a contiguous state do NOT need to complete this form and do NOT need to comply with New York's COVID-19 Travel Advisory.

Vaccine Information

  • Please view this Department of Defense graphic  which depicts changes that were implemented to get the COVID-19 vaccine created, tested, and distributed more quickly. As you can see, the COVID-19 vaccines are following the same rigorous process as previous vaccines.
  • Please be aware of COVID-19 vaccine scams and ways in which you can protect yourself here.

December 18, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

Please see below information regarding the COVID vaccine.

  1. New York launched a new website about the COVID-19 vaccine with everything you need to know. It provides New Yorkers with a one-stop location for accurate and up to date information on the vaccine, safety, distribution priorities and more. On the site, New Yorkers can find general information about the vaccine, a detailed Frequently Asked Questions section that provides facts about the vaccine's safety and efficacy, and other questions you may have.

  2. The State has identified Regional Vaccination Hubs to develop vaccination networks ahead of Phase 2. These hubs will be led by local hospital systems and will work with community leaders to develop vaccination networks, which will guide vaccination administration for the second phase. Long Island’s hospital partner is Northwell Health. NYC’s hospital partner is Greater New York Hospital Association. Under the state's plan, the second phase of administration will focus on essential workers and individuals in the general public who are most at risk.

  3. Vaccinating Students, Faculty, Staff: In conversations with the NYS Department of Health over the past few weeks, the Council for Independent Colleges and Universities has asked for their assessment of where students, faculty, and staff will fall in the vaccination priority list and have asked that they consider several sub-groups that may need to be further prioritized. We will share details on this as soon as we receive them.

  4. Cost of Vaccination: On December 16th, the Governor said that no one in New York will be charged for the COVID-19 vaccination. To that end, the state Department of Financial Services has issued a directive to insurers requiring that they cover any cost associated with vaccinations.

December 11, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Colleagues,

We hope that you are doing well as you prepare for the end of the Fall semester. This semester has been unique in its challenges, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work together to support our students and continue the great work we do here at Molloy.

As we prepare for the end of this semester and our return in the spring, we will continue to closely monitor the data related to COVID-19, the number of cases in our region and guidance from New York State and our local departments of health so we can communicate any potential changes to you immediately. Any decisions regarding changes in our Spring semester plans, made in consultation with the President’s Cabinet, will be shared with you immediately. For up-to-date information about the number of cases at Molloy, please utilize the New York State Dashboard. You may also visit our website for COVID-19 updates.

The College is prepared to be nimble and proactive as we navigate the ongoing crisis. While it remains our plan to begin instruction on January 4th for Intersession classes and January 19th for the Spring semester, should it become necessary to alter our decision regarding how coursework will be delivered and if the campus will be open for those taking in-person classes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. We ask that you monitor your email during the holidays and in early to mid-January.

December 7, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

Here are some reminders that are extremely important:

Reporting of Positive Test Results to Health Services 

If you test positive for COVID-19 while the College is operating remotely, please notify Health Services immediately at covid19@molloy.edu and remember to include your full name, ID number and best phone number to reach you.  If possible, please include any test results that you receive in your email. 

We continue to care about your health and safety and that of others. As of today, we have 18 positive cases and wish to remind you of the importance of wearing masks and social distancing.   For up to date information on the number of cases at Molloy, please utilize the New York State Dashboard.

Access to Rockville Centre Campus, Houses, and 30 Hempstead

Appointments are available and can be obtained by using the office reservations form on Ad Astra. There is one person permitted per office, per hour, between 9 am and 7 pm. There are no exceptions to this.  You are not permitted to come to campus or enter any building if you do not have an approved appointment. 

  • Appointments MUST be made in advance. Once it is within 24 hours of the requested appointment time, you will not be able to submit a request. 
  • If you have been approved to come to a Molloy location and do NOT feel well, you MUST STAY HOME and contact health services at covid19@molloy.edu.
  • Upon arrival to campus, please call (516) 323-3500 to inform Public Safety which building you will need access to. Public Safety will meet you at your building to let you in.  Please call (516) 323-3500 when you leave your building.  The Hagan Center will be open due to lab hours and will not require Public Safety to let you in.
  • Please remember that any time you are approved to come to a Molloy location, you MUST submit a daily symptom questionnaire by 10am. You must also utilize the temperature kiosk upon arrival and wear a mask.

November 20, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

Here are some reminders as we prepare to go fully remote beginning Wednesday, November 25th.

For anyone currently on campus, please remember to take home items you will need while learning or working remotely. There is no guarantee we will be able to give you access to campus after November 24th.  In addition, computer equipment should NOT be taken from any Molloy location without approval from IT. 

Access to Rockville Centre Campus, Houses, and 30 Hempstead

Appointments are available and can be obtained by using the office reservations form on Ad Astra. There is one person permitted per office, per hour, between 9 am and 7 pm. November 18, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

We hope you are all doing well. Here is today's update:

Thanksgiving Holiday:

As we prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, we want to share some information related to travel, taken from the American College Health Association (ACHA). If you MUST travel during the holiday, please be safe.   

Travel Advice: Reduce the number of stops on the trip. Take a direct flight if possible, and if driving, pack food/snacks for the car trip.  

• Delay travel if sick or exposed. Anyone feeling ill, recently diagnosed with COVID-19 (within 10 days), or exposed to someone with COVID-19 (within 14 days) should self-isolate and delay travel. Students and employees should follow guidance from their health care provider regarding when recommended isolation/quarantine periods are complete and travel can be resumed.
• Take safety precautions during travel, especially if using public transportation. Wear a face covering at all times and consider also wearing a face shield. Stay at least 6 feet away from other people; if not possible on public transportation, sit as far away from other passengers as possible. Carry and use hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol) frequently. 
• Use a disinfecting/sanitizing wipe to clean any touchable surfaces in the vehicle in which you are traveling. This includes planes, trains, and other forms of transportation. 
• Re-check for any requirements or restrictions at your travel destination. 
• The least risky option is private transportation by yourself or your family members. If in a car with others outside the household, wear a mask and sit in the back seat if someone else is driving. If weather conditions permit, open the windows.

Due to the recent uptick in the number of positive cases in New York StateNassau County and on our campus, we urge everyone to continue to practice social distancing, wear face masks and follow the guidelines and protocols from our Health Services Department, CDC, NYS and local health department as set forth in our Fall Restart Plan.  With a little more than one week of face-to face campus activity left to this semester, we need your help by asking you to continue to adhere to the guidelines and protocols that have been put in place for our protection. Please help us get to November 24th in the safest way possible and remember to stay home if you are sick. 

As a reminder and included in our Fall and Spring Restart Plans, "all members of the Molloy community at all Molloy locations are expected to fully comply with all CDC, NYS, local health department, and Molloy policies, protocols, procedures, and guidelines outlined in this document and elsewhere at all times. Failure to adhere to all required policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines may result in disciplinary action, including but not limited to termination, dismissal and/or loss of privileges, including access to campus buildings and resources. All members of the Molloy community are expected to share the responsibilities of halting the spread of the coronavirus. If you observe non-compliance of any COVID-19 related policy, protocol, procedure, or guideline, please contact your supervisor."  You may also contact Public Safety at (516) 323-3500. 

We would also like to thank Danielle, Kellie, and Lauren from Health Services, who continually work to keep all of us safe.  As difficult as it might be to understand the protocols that are mandated, we ask that you keep Molloy's sense of community in your mind when you are contacted by Health Services.  It is in your best interest and that of our students and employees to adhere to the guidelines and do what is mandated, whether you are advised to get a PCR test, quarantine, or fill out the daily health questionnaire, as examples.  All of these directives and more have been put in place to keep all of us safe.

November 10, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

We hope you are all doing well. Here is today's update:

Spring Plan:

Attached is the Spring 2021 plan. This will also be posted on our website within the week for your convenience. Please let us know if you have any questions. Some of the highlights of the plan include:

• The Monday-Thursday of Spring Break have been removed in an effort to minimize travel. This is a consistent practice with colleges in our area and across the country aimed at stopping the spread of COVID-19. Please refer to our revised Spring calendar for more information.
• The library will be physically open on a modified schedule. Students will be able to access the library in person and virtually.
• Currently, there are over 80 new housing applicants for the Spring semester. Anticipated occupancy is around 210 people. Single and double rooms will be available. Triple rooms will not be available.
• We anticipate 30% in-person instruction vs. 24% last semester.
• Athletics is planning for a Spring season and is waiting on final guidance from the NCAA and the East Coast Conference as well as the final testing regimen details for our athletes.
• The installation of needlepoint bipolar ionization systems throughout the RVC campus (excluding Kellenberg Hall) will continue.
• There is a plan to transition the daily symptom questionnaire to app format for Spring 2021.

Holiday Season Notification:

As we enter the Holiday season and prepare to go remote, Health Services will still need to be notified of any positive COVID-19 cases and exposures after November 24. Information regarding positive cases and exposures can be e-mailed to Health Services at COVID19@molloy.edu. Any information shared should include the individual’s name, ID number and the best phone number that they can be contacted.

You can also call Health Services at 516-323-3467. If the phone is not answered when you call, please leave a voicemail with your name and phone number.

Antigen Testing:

This is a reminder that Molloy is offering free antigen testing to students and employees on Thursday, November 12 between 9am-4pm in Public Square 050. Please sign up for an appointment here. If you make an appointment, please be sure to mark your calendar and attend the appointment.

Travel Restrictions Reminder:

As a reminder, Governor Cuomo announced a significant and welcomed change to New York State's travel advisory policy: effective November 4, 2020, travelers to New York will not be required to quarantine for 14 days* provided they meet certain COVID-19 testing conditions. While this is a welcome change to the previous 14-day quarantine model, every student and employee must fill out the travel questionnaire before leaving or upon returning to New York State unless traveling to a state that borders New York.

*The new policy allows travelers to avoid a 14-day quarantine if they meet conditions 1-3 below:

1. Have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 3 days before arrival in New York.
2. Quarantine for three days upon arrival in New York; and
3. On the fourth day in New York, get re-tested for COVID-19. If both tests are negative, the traveler can cease quarantine. If either test is positive, they must isolate.
4. Additionally,

• Those coming from non-border states who do not follow the above testing regimen would be required to quarantine for 14 days.
• Travelers who were only out of state for less than 24 hours do not need to quarantine but must get a test on Day Four of their arrival back in New York.
• Those traveling to and from New York’s border states, i.e., New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Vermont, are not subject to testing or quarantine.

We hope you are all doing well. Here is today's update:

This past Saturday, Governor Cuomo announced a significant and welcomed change to New York State's travel advisory policy: effective November 4th, 2020, travelers to New York will not be required to quarantine for 14 days* provided they meet certain COVID-19 testing conditions. While this is a welcome change to the previous 14-day quarantine model, every student and employee must fill out the travel questionnaire before leaving or upon returning to New York State unless traveling to a state that borders New York.

We are experiencing a small increase in positive cases at Molloy. Please remember to do your part by wearing a mask, maintaining social distancing, and washing your hands regularly. For the current list of cases, please visit the NYS Dashboard.

Spring 2021 Calendar Update As a follow-up to this past Tuesday's update (shown below) regarding the Spring 2021 schedule, please note that Sub-term V had to be adjusted and is highlighted, below. We are also providing the link to the revised catalog for your convenience.

Please also note that the degree award date for Fall 2020 has been amended to Dec. 21, 2020.

Dear Molloy Community,

Out of an abundance of caution and with consideration given to public health recommendations, we are writing to update you on the College's plans for the 2021 Winter Intersession and Spring semester, including changes planned for Spring Break. Following conversations with representatives from all College constituencies, the following has been decided:

Winter Intersession:
  • Winter Intersession will take place as planned from Monday,  January 4, to Friday, January 14, 2021. Classes will be taught in a variety of formats.

Spring 2021:
  • The Spring 2021 semester will begin as planned on Tuesday,  January 19, 2021 and last class/finals end on Friday, May 7. Courses will be offered in a mixture of in-person, hybrid and online modalities.
 
Changes to Spring Break:

To help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, the College will be eliminating Spring Break in March to discourage travel to and from high-risk areas followed by a return to campus. The overview of the revised Spring schedule, including days off from class, is below and was created to adhere to best practices in public health. (A link to the online calendar will be forthcoming.)

This decision was made following campus-wide discussion and based on updated health and safety guidelines from the Governor's office.  We are aware of the potential challenges this decision may cause but please know that the health and safety of everyone on campus is of utmost importance.

October 29, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

We hope you are all doing well. Here are today's updates:

Many of you may have seen the media coverage in recent days about the new air purification system that Molloy is currently installing in our three residence halls and many other buildings on the Rockville Centre campus. The product is a state-of-the art system and we are pleased that Molloy is the first college on Long Island to take advantage of this new technology. After this installation is complete (in the next week or two), we will be installing the product throughout the campus. Most of the installations will be completed over the next few months.

Molloy will use CARES Act funding to support this project. The College received a grant from the Town of Hempstead in the summer. The grant reimburses Molloy for expenses that are “necessary expenditures due to the public health emergency with respect to COVID-19,” according to the CARES Act.

This latest project is one of many ways we are working to protect the Molloy community. We have been adding MERV-13 filters in our buildings and at our off-campus locations as we receive them.

The result of all of these efforts from everyone is that we have had minimal cases of COVID-19 during this semester. We want to thank everyone for your continued adherence to safety protocols as we look to the last few weeks of this semester and beyond.

October 27, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

 
Dear Molloy Community,

Out of an abundance of caution and with consideration given to public health recommendations, we are writing to update you on the College's plans for the 2021 Winter Intersession and Spring semester, including changes planned for Spring Break. Following conversations with representatives from all College constituencies, the following has been decided:

Winter Intersession:
  • Winter Intersession will take place as planned from Monday,  January 4, to Friday, January 14, 2021. Classes will be taught in a variety of formats.

Spring 2021:
  • The Spring 2021 semester will begin as planned on Tuesday,  January 19, 2021 and last class/finals end on Friday, May 7. Courses will be offered in a mixture of in-person, hybrid and online modalities.
 
Changes to Spring Break:

To help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, the College will be eliminating Spring Break in March to discourage travel to and from high-risk areas followed by a return to campus. The overview of the revised Spring schedule, including days off from class, is below and was created to adhere to best practices in public health. (A link to the online calendar will be forthcoming.)

October 23, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

 
Dear Molloy Community,

We hope you are all doing well. Here are today's updates:

Post-Thanksgiving

The College will go fully remote beginning November 25th and will operate on a schedule similar to this past summer.  

Since the purpose of going remote as of Thanksgiving is to stop the spread of COVID-19, we will not allow studying, printing, etc. at any Molloy location. Clubs and student events will not be permitted to happen in person at any Molloy location.

If there are extenuating circumstances and a student does not have a safe space to study, etc., please contact Janine Biscari directly to make arrangements.

Please understand that:

  1. All buildings will be locked.
  2. Employees who need to work from their office will need to make an appointment and will be let into their building by a Public Safety Officer upon arrival.
  3. Any use of Molloy facilities by students for academic purposes will be possible only in situations where prior arrangements have been made by your academic program and approved by leadership. Students will be contacted directly by their program director with all pertinent information.

News from New York State

Cluster Zone Updates, Additions: During a press conference Wednesday, Gov. Cuomo announced several changes to the cluster zones announced last week.

  1. Ozone Park in Queens was added to the Queens cluster yellow zone.
  2. Areas of Far Rockaway, Queens that were designated red and orange are now all designated yellow.
  3. Areas of Brooklyn that were designated orange are now designated yellow; areas designated red remain red.
  4. Broome County’s cluster remains yellow.
  5. Rockland County’s cluster remains designated red and yellow.
  6. Orange County’s cluster remains designated red and yellow. 
  7. A new cluster was identified in Steuben County and designated yellow.
  8. A new cluster was identified in Chemung County and designated orange and yellow.

In Red zones, schools and non-essential businesses must close and non-essential gatherings are prohibited, among other restrictions. In Orange zones, schools must close but most businesses (except gyms, hair salons, personal care services, and other high-risk businesses) may open and gatherings are limited to 10 people. In Yellow zones, schools and all non-essential businesses are permitted to open and gatherings are limited to 25 people. Click here for detailed guidance on the restrictions within clusters. 

Clarification from DOH on Travel Quarantine: The Department of Health provided the following clarification on this week’s travel advisory updates impacting Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania:

  1. As of October 20, 2020, neighboring states, Connecticut, New Jersey and Pennsylvania now meet the criteria for travel restrictions to NYS.
  2. However, due to the interconnected nature of NYS, CT, NJ, and PA – and the volume of workers that travel between states - a quarantine is not practically viable.
  3. Essential workers coming to NYS from CT, NJ, and PA do not need to submit a request for a travel exemption.
  4. No one from CT, NJ or PA has to complete the travel form.
  5. Teachers, school staff, and students from CT, NJ, and PA can go to work at/attend school in NY.

October 21, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

We hope you are all doing well.  Here are today's updates:

As a result of the long Columbus Day weekend, we are experiencing a slight uptick in the number of positive cases (7) as well as those individuals under quarantine and isolation (these numbers fluctuate often).  There have been no additional positive cases reported in the last 48 hours.  While these numbers are still relatively small, we wanted this to serve as a reminder to be vigilant in adhering to the safety protocols that have been put in place for students and employees.

Please continue to visit the NYS Dashboard for data that is reported to the State by us on a daily basis.  As a matter of clarity, please refer to the definitions, below, to help explain what you see on the dashboard:

  • Quarantine is defined as a person without symptoms who (1) has been designated as a close or proximate contact to someone known to have COVID-19; OR (2) has traveled internationally from a CDC level 2 or 3 COVID-19 related travel health notice country; OR (3) has traveled from a state impacted by the NYS Travel Advisory.
  • Isolation is defined as (1) a person who has tested positive for COVID-19; (2) a person who is suspected of having COVID-19 and awaiting test results; OR (3) a person who is ill with signs and symptoms consistent with COVID-19 disease with no alternative diagnosis.

We will continue to keep you up to date as the semester progresses and ask that you continue to follow safety precautions and view the NYS Dashboard daily for the most up-to-date information on COVID-19 related cases.  Please know that these numbers fluctuate based on when the cases are reported to when they are no longer active.  We continue to take every precaution to ensure everyone's safety and thank you for all you continue to do to keep us safe by following the safety protocols we have put in place.

The College is offering antigen testing* for free to Molloy employees, by appointment only, in Public Square 050, on the following dates:

*Antigen testing is a nasal swab test that provides results within 20 minutes. Antigen testing has a 16% false negative rate and a 98% accurate rate on positives.

October 2, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update


Dear Molloy Community,

COVID Alert NY APP

Governor Cuomo announced yesterday that the state has launched a new free app to aid with contact tracing. The app, COVID Alert NY, was developed by Google and Apple. When it is downloaded to a user's phone, the app utilizes Bluetooth technology to track the phone's proximity to the phones of other users who have downloaded the app.  If one of those people tests positive for COVID-19, the app contacts anyone who may have been in close contact. Users receive "exposure notifications" informing they may have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for the virus and advising that they contact either their own physician or the state Department of Health. The app also provides information on quarantining and testing.

The app is free and available for both iPhone and Android. Click here for more information.  A document with additional details from the state is also attached.

Per the Governor, the app doesn't record identifying information about users.

Please note:  All daily symptom questionnaires must be submitted by 10am each day you are approved to come to campus.

In addition to wearing masks and practicing social distancing, please remember that completing the COVID-19 Symptom Questionnaire and getting your temperature taken at a temperature kiosk is part of a shared, community-wide effort at minimizing the spread of COVID-19.  Please do your part for our college community by completing the questionnaire every day you are coming to campus and getting your temperature taken at a kiosk every day upon arrival.  Building entrances are clearly marked and temperature kiosks are located just inside these entrances.  See map.

Resident students are reminded that they must have their temperature taken twice per day in their residence hall.

COVID-19 Testing

Wednesday, October 7, Baseline Health will conduct PCR Covid-19 diagnostic testing for employees and commuter students at the Molloy College Rockville Centre campus by appointment only.

  • Please use this link to make an appointment.
  • Please note that the mobile unit will be parked in front of Public Safety. 
  • This test will be processed through your insurance. While the first test for an asymptomatic individual should be fully covered, you are advised to contact your insurance carrier in advance to confirm that you will not be responsible for any fees associated with the test. It has been our experience that insurers are only covering the first surveillance test (i.e., test for asymptomatic individuals that have not had close contact with an infected person).
  • Please complete the attached forms and bring them with you to your appointment time along with a photo ID. Availability is limited so please make your appointment in advance.

Lessing's Food Service

In an effort to increase the speed of receiving your food orders, we highly recommend ordering food online via the Lessing's Café link. This online process will designate a time for you to pick up your food and is a great time saver.

COVID-19 Testing

For next week only, on Monday, September 28 and Wednesday, September 30, anyone who wishes to get a COVID-19 PCR test can have their test administered by Baseline at their Lynbrook site, which is 4 miles from our main campus.  You can register for an appointment using this link.  This location is near the Roller Hockey Rink off of Horton Avenue.

Also, we want to clarify that RVC campus PCR testing (not antibody testing), for employees working at a Molloy location and commuter students with face-to-face classes, will take place on Wednesday, October 7 and will most likely take place every Wednesday thereafter.  The link to sign up for an appointment will be sent out as soon as possible. 

Please note:

COVID-19 Dashboard

September 13, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear Molloy Community,

Health Services has been notified that a resident student has tested positive for COVID-19.

  • To respect the privacy of the individual, they will remain anonymous. The individual did not attend a face to face class at any Molloy location.
  • The affected student has been brought to an isolation space on campus.
  • All spaces in which the student was present in the halls have been disinfected. 
  • The Department of Health will notify anyone who may have been exposed to the individual who tested positive, and give further instructions for required next steps.
  • Molloy has separate dedicated space in the residence halls for on-campus students to complete isolation periods, meeting all public health guidelines.

We are taking all necessary precautions to help slow the spread of COVID-19 on our campus and in our community, in keeping with federal and state regulations. Together, we can ensure the Fall 2020 semester is safe and successful.

Please, do your part by wearing a face covering in all public spaces, social distancing, frequently washing your hands and tracking your symptoms daily.

September 10, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear Molloy Community,

We hope you are all doing well.   

COVID-19 Testing 

All resident students were required to have a negative COVID-19 test prior to their move-in date. We are speaking with another testing company regarding regular and systematic testing for residents for the remainder of the semester, and we hope to finalize that in the near future.  

Currently, Molloy has two positive cases, both students, who were tested prior to the beginning of the Fall semester.  They are currently under quarantine.  We will be providing information to our community regarding the number of COVID-19 infections via a dashboard that is being developed to keep everyone informed and up-to-date regarding possible cases.  

Temperature Kiosks/Symptom Questionnaire 

As you may recall, the College has installed temperature kiosks in all buildings on the Rockville Centre campus, 30 Hempstead, and the Suffolk Center. Everyone who has a face-to-face class or is approved to work at a Molloy location, including students, faculty and staff, must go to a kiosk upon arrival each day to have their temperature read.  Additionally, everyone going to a Molloy location MUST complete the daily COVID-19 symptom questionnaire at www.molloy.edu/cq prior to arrival on campus.

September 2, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear Molloy Employees,

We hope everyone is well.  We are looking forward to welcoming our students when classes begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. 

As we begin the Fall 2020 semester, everyone in the Molloy community is expected to share responsibility for helping to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Employees are empowered to be responsible for the health and well-being of their colleagues and our community. 

Maintaining a clean desk and work environment is imperative to aid in the cleaning and disinfecting measures the College is undertaking as part of our plan to reduce the transmission of COVID-19. This communication will outline how workspaces should be maintained going forward. 

At the end of every day, the College expects all employees to take the time to clean and disinfect their desk. Please complete the attached form to order wipes or hand sanitizer for your office.

Regular office cleaning by the College custodial staff will continue as before with trash removal, dusting, and vacuuming on a regular basis. Custodial staff will continue to clean and disinfect common areas, hallways, etc. and will also be utilizing electrostatic disinfectant foggers every night on commonly touched surfaces.

August 13, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear Molloy Community,

We hope you are all doing well.

As mentioned during Monday's "Conversation with President Lentini" Zoom call, here is a link to the Employee Reopening FAQ page on the website.  We will update these FAQs with answers to yesterday's questions as soon as we possibly can.  In the meantime, please feel free to listen to the Zoom call in case you were unable to join us. 

We also want to let you know that Dr. Lentini will be a featured panelist on the Long Island Herald's "Higher Education on Long Island" event, Friday, August 21 at 10 am. College and university leaders from throughout our region will discuss the status of life on campus during Covid-19. Register here.

Coronavirus Task Force

We want to make you aware of the current role of the Coronavirus Task Force:

  • To work closely with the academic and operational areas of the College to monitor our adherence to the College's Fall 2020 Restart Plan submitted to New York State in July;
  • To closely follow federal, state, and local guidelines and requirements related to Covid-19 and ensure that the Molloy community is made aware of any developments through regular communications;
  • To be a resource to the Molloy community by providing advice, where appropriate, regarding COVID-19 related matters;
  • To develop necessary protocols, procedures and subsequent modifications to the College's Fall 2020 Restart Plan, in consultation with subject matter experts, the Department of Health, and the President's Cabinet, in order to prepare for an event of a full or partial shutdown in the future.

While the Task Force provides general guidelines to the College community based on legal and regulatory requirements, College policies, and best practices, the day-to-day decisions are made in consultation with the President's Cabinet and the academic/administrative departments most associated with specific matters. This includes the implementation of the College's Fall 2020 Restart Plan and any modifications to the Plan.

Manhattan Center

The Manhattan Center will remain closed for the Fall semester. 

Temperature Kiosks

Temperature kiosks are scheduled to be delivered to campus this week and we hope to have them installed and tested immediately following.

Signage at all Molloy locations is almost complete and should be finished by August 19th.

Communication with Students and Parents

Since March, open Zoom sessions have been held with students and parents regarding the Fall Reopening. We will host follow up Zoom sessions with students and parents in the coming weeks to answer any questions they have.

August 6, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Dear Molloy Community,

We are looking forward to sharing more updates with you regarding the Fall restart at Molloy locations and wanted you to know we will be using the restart20@molloy.edu email address from now on.   

Appointments

Although we are reopening our physical locations in September, employees will still need to make appointments to access their offices or report to work if not already included in the September "working in person" calendar provided by their area vice president.  Please remember that your need to be on campus should be based upon a critical need for your office and must be approved by your area vice president. A COVID-19 Symptom Questionnaire will still need to be filled out before anyone arrives on campus. 

Administrative Meetings

All administrative meetings should continue to be held virtually for the Fall semester. 

Face Coverings

Everyone is required to wear a face covering while indoors at any Molloylocation.  Please remember to bring your face covering to Molloy with you.  If you don't have one, one will be provided to you.  Here's a fun Mask-up Molloy video featuring our president, Jim Lentini. 

Employee Health and Safety

It is important to remember to stay home if you are not feeling well. Social distancing is critical to helping stop the spread of COVID-19. Please watch the Social Distancing video 

Move-in Days

July 29, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

To the Molloy College Community,

We hope that you and your family are doing well during this time.

On-Campus Events

We wanted to let you know that on-campus events will not be permitted to take place through August 31st at any Molloy location.  More details will be forthcoming and will include in-person event guidelines for the Fall semester.

Our efforts continue as we work towards preparing all Molloy locations for reopening this September.  This includes signage, temperature kiosks, hand sanitizer stations, wipe dispensers in classrooms, and reducing furniture in public areas.

Travel Restrictions

Please remember to follow the guidelines for travel outside of New York State. 

As of today, July 29th, there are 34 states and 2 territories (Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico) on the restricted list requiring a 14-day quarantine upon return to New York.  Also note that infections have been rising in Pennsylvania, which may be at risk of being added to this list in the near future.  We have also included a map which may help you to visualize the impacted states.

These travel restrictions will greatly impact your ability to come to any Molloy location in the Fall. Anyone traveling to New York from one of the restricted states is required to quarantine for 14 days upon their arrival in New York. There are limited exceptions for essential workers and students in healthcare programs. Click here to read more about the Travel Advisory, including the full list of restricted states and exemption details.

  • If you have been approved to come to campus for any reason, it is required that you complete the COVID-19 Symptom Questionnaire on the morning of your visit.
  • If you are scheduled to be on campus and are not feeling well, and would answer yes to any question in the COVID-19 Symptom Questionnaire, you must NOT report to any Molloy location.  You still must submit the health questionnaire so that Health Services can follow up with you.  If you change your appointment, and someone goes in your place to campus, you must notify Molly Ballerstein beforehand at mballerstein@molloy.edu.

 
Fall Work Schedules

Please also note that all supervisors will be submitting work schedules for the Fall regarding in-person and continuation of remote work, depending on the office. All offices who work directly with students will be physically open with minimal in person staffing in September and others on an as-needed basis with staggered work schedules. June 26, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

To the Molloy College Community,

New York State has issued guidance for colleges and universities this week. Our Fall operational plan has now been created to align with the State's guidance and is currently being reviewed by the College leadership and College counsel. We look forward to sharing details of the Fall plan with you very soon. Sub-groups have been identified with representation from various areas of the College that will coordinate specific logistics associated with Fall reopening. They include: academics, communications, facilities, goods and services, human resources, student affairs and technology.

Access to Rockville Centre Campus and Houses

Appointments are still available and can be obtained by using the office reservations form if you wish to come to your office on the Rockville Centre campus on the hour between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. There is one person permitted per building, per hour. There are no exceptions to this. You are not permitted to come to campus or enter any building if you do not have an approved appointment.

Appointments must be made at least one day in advance and you must also complete a health questionnaire, which will be emailed to you when you receive your appointment confirmation. It must be filled out and submitted the same day and each day you have been approved to come to campus. It cannot be completed on an earlier day. In addition, anyone who has been approved to come to campus must wear a face covering while inside.

We wanted to keep you updated regarding our plans for the fall. We are anticipating guidance from New York State this week, specific to colleges and universities. This guidance is expected to provide us with regulations specific to classroom capacities and residence hall occupancy. As soon as we have the information from New York State, we will tailor our plans to comply with their requirements. Then, we will share the information with the community. We hope to have detailed plans out to the community by early July.

Local Testing Sites

Rockville Centre Recreation Center (PDF) and Gries Park (PDF) in Lynbrook are offering COVID-19 antibody testing. You may also check your local communities for testing sites.

June 8, 2020: Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

To the Molloy College Community,

We hope that you and your family are doing well during this time.

Beginning the week of June 15, 2020, employees will be able to make an appointment to access their office on the Rockville Centre campus. This includes the off-campus houses in Rockville Centre.

Appointments are available on the hour between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. There is one person permitted per building, per hour. There are no exceptions to this. You are not permitted to come to campus or enter any building if you do not have an approved appointment. Appointments must be made at least one day in advance.

Anyone who has been approved to come to campus must wear a face covering while inside.

  • To request an appointment for access to your office, you will need to use Ad Astra. For those of you unfamiliar with Ad Astra, please read the instructions below for the specific details on how to request an office appointment. Please submit one request per person. Requests will be approved on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Ad Astra and tutorials can be found at the bottom of the “Useful Resources” section of the Molloy Faculty & Staff page on the website. You can also log in to Ad Astra using this link.

How to Use Ad Astra to Submit an Office Appointment Request

  • At the top right corner of Molloy’s Ad Astra homepage, you will see a link to log in.
    • Log in using the first part of your Molloy email address (excluding @molloy.edu), and the password you use to log into the Molloy network.

  • Click the link at the top of the page for Events.
  • Click “Request an Event” from the options that appear.
  • A box will appear with a drop-down menu including three options. Select Office Appointment Form.
  • Read the information at the top of the form.
  • Fill in all the required fields.
  • Click the “Add a Meeting” button to enter the meeting details.
  • Add all the meeting details. Click the “Request Rooms” button, and the available options will appear. You must choose the building your office is in to request your appointment.
  • Hit the Submit button at the bottom of the form. Within minutes, you should receive an automatically generated email from Ad Astra saying that your request was received.
  • Wait for the email indicating whether the scheduler has approved or declined your request. You will receive an email either way.

Once you have submitted your request, you will receive an initial confirmation email from Ad Astra that your submission was received. Once your request has been approved, you will receive an email confirmation from Ad Astra that your request has been approved and the appointment is scheduled. All appointments should NOT be considered finalized until a second email is received approving the request.

If you wish to see if a particular date and time is available before requesting an appointment, you may follow the instructions, below.

How to Use Ad Astra to Check Availability for an Office Appointment Request

  • At the top right corner of Molloy’s Ad Astra homepage, you will see a link to log in. Log in using the first part of your Molloy email address (excluding @molloy.edu), and the password you use to log into the Molloy network.Click the link at the top of the page for Calendars.
  • Click “Scheduling Grid” from the options that appear. In the middle of the Scheduling Grid Screen that appears click “Choose Calendar” You will not have to adjust a filter at the left of the screen.
  • Click “Availability for Building Access During Covid-19" from the options that appear.
  • Ad Astra will automatically show you today. Click on the red date button to adjust the date accordingly.
  • Ad Astra will show all hours of the day. Please note that appointments are only available on the hour, weekdays, beginning at 9 a.m. with the last appointment of the day beginning at 6 p.m.

Update regarding Access to Rockville Centre Campus Only
Yesterday’s update included the efforts we are making to allow employees to come to campus to briefly enter your offices to pick up items needed. At this time, this pertains to the Rockville Centre campus only. Again, this will begin June 15 and employees will be able to enter their offices, by appointment only, to pick up needed items. Once an appointment system is established you will be notified. It is critical that time slots be limited to keep density low at this time so employees will only be permitted to come to the Rockville Centre campus at a pre-approved time.

We will communicate to you when other locations will be open for this same purpose.

Today, we wanted to let you know that beginning June 15, employees will be able to briefly enter their offices, by appointment only, to pick up needed items. Once an appointment system is established you will be notified. It is critical that time slots be limited to keep density low at this time.

We’re Off to See the Wizard Parade honoring Drew and Karen Bogner

Just a reminder to join us tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. for a “not to be missed” farewell parade for Drew and Karen Bogner. Line up will begin behind the chapel. As a reminder, once we have passed Drew and Karen, we will need to exit campus immediately and access to buildings will not be permitted, including the use of restrooms. Public Safety will be on hand to direct us. We expect Newsday and the Rockville Centre Herald to be on hand to capture all of our creativity as we say Goodbye to our Wizard!

To the Molloy College Community,

We hope that you and your family are doing well during this time. This is certainly not the Spring semester that anyone expected, and we hope that you are safe and healthy at home.

To begin this week’s update, we wish to recognize National Nurses Week, National Teacher Appreciation Week and Mental Health Awareness Month. Our sincerest appreciation goes out to our nursing, education and mental health counseling faculty, alumni and students for all they have done to keep us healthy, educated and full of spirit during this pandemic. As we approach the summer months, we want to inform you and reassure you that the Coronavirus Taskforce continues to work diligently on behalf of the College to ensure that communication is shared, updates are provided, and options for re-entry are explored. Our underlying principles continue to be the health and safety of the Molloy community and supporting our students in obtaining their degrees.

We are currently developing comprehensive plans related to the Fall 2020 semester. While the Fall semester will not resemble any familiar version of “normal” for any of us, we are exploring various scenarios, which include a partial opening of our campuses, if the Department of Health and New York State permit. Among the various factors we are investigating to foster a safe and healthy campus are social distancing guidelines, handwashing, and frequently disinfecting spaces on campus. We know that these protocols are proven to help stop the spread of COVID-19. We intend to share the Fall 2020 plan in June so that you can plan and prepare for the Fall semester.

In addition, we are working on the answers to questions you submitted during and after last week's Zoom call with Dr. Bogner. Most of those questions were regarding the furloughs. For the answers to those questions we have to date, please click this link for the Human Resources Page, which includes the link for the Covid-19 Employee Information. Molloy has been awarded funding from the federal government through the CARES Act to assist students who are experiencing extreme financial hardship directly related to the pandemic. If you are a student who has been so impacted, or know of students so impacted, the student should contact the Student Solution Center at 516.323.4400 or studentsolutioncenter@molloy.edu.

Mental Health Awareness Month

Mental Health and Wellness Center (MHWC)

In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month, we have partnered with the Oceanside Library and The Makeshift Movement, a local organization, to assist with programming for a virtual wellness week. The MHWC facilitated a group on managing stress and anxiety on Monday 5/4 and the MHWC will be featured in a written Mental Health “Q & A” that will be released on Friday 5/8.

We have also implemented a series of wellness workshops offered directly to the Molloy community called “Afternoon Wellness Breaks,” which run on Tuesdays and Fridays at 1 pm. Due to the success of these workshops in April, we have expanded these groups into May! In addition to mental health workshops, all of our student counselors have engaged in telehealth training and have begun to provide virtual counseling to new and existing clients. As we roll into the first week of May during these trying times, it is perhaps fitting that May is Mental Health Awareness month. To assist with the topic of stress, below are a couple of simple links for materials within Cigna's public domain sites. JET Library Support

Resources are available through the JET Library not only for our library and those we serve but also the wider community as well. This includes mental health, stress, coping, and changes as a result of the pandemic.

  • Alumnus Billy Bianco, ’17, was among the first wave of healthcare workers to contract Covid-19. He recovered and is using his first-hand experience and knowledge to care for patients and support his colleagues. His story was featured in the Long Island Herald and on the Molloy College website.
  • Carly Banks (’20) is a student-athlete and nursing student who has been providing compassionate care at a Long Island testing site. Learn more about Carly’s journey as she begins her career as a Pediatric ICU nurse at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
  • Molloy Nursing Student Association (MNSA) is in the news! Click here for the article about our nursing students’ outreach to Molloy’s nursing alumni and others during the coronavirus pandemic.

To the Molloy College Community,

Thankfully, the number of known positive COVID-19 cases involving members of our Molloy community has been decreasing. However, the buildings remain closed at all Molloy locations through the end of June as per today’s announcement by Governor Cuomo. We cannot grant access to individuals at this time.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Please follow @molloyviolenceprevention on Instagram. For the past 21 years, Peace Over Violence has run its Denim Day campaign on a Wednesday in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it.

Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault and rape. In this sexual violence prevention and education campaign they ask community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. Since we were not able to see each other in person, Molloy participants sent pictures of themselves (and family members/pets…) in their denim to be included on @molloyviolenceprevention Instagram page. Documenting and Preserving the Pandemic Experience

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the world in countless ways. As our lives and communities change, it is important that our local experiences are documented for the future. Molloy College Special Collections is creating an archive of materials to document this challenging time. They seek journal or diary entries, reflections, photographs, videos, voice memos, audio recordings, and other digital evidence relating to the impact of COVID-19. Handwritten journals and physical works can also be sent in. Examples of experiences may include working from home, the shift to online learning, social distancing, and self-quarantine. Members of the Molloy family and the greater Long Island community can contribute their experiences by following the directions found here.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Molloy community has always kept the pillar of service at the forefront of what we do. During these hard times, many of us are trying to find ways to serve those in need remotely and safely. Human Resources and the Office of Mission and Ministry are working together to provide these opportunities for service to our employees.

Letters to Dominican Sisters

The Queen of the Rosary Motherhouse is home to many Dominican Sisters, many of whom have attended or worked at Molloy. With the current restrictions in place, they are unable to have visitors at this time. We are able to send letters to them to bring them some cheer, let them know we are thinking about them, and bring us together as a community of Dominicans.

If you would like to send a letter to a Sister, please contact Alexandra Hamilton at ahamilton1@molloy.edu or Una Milella at umilella@molloy.edu and they will give you the name of a Sister to ensure that all have an opportunity to receive a letter.

Food Drive at Molloy

During this time, food banks continue to give necessary food and supplies to people in need. We will be holding a food drive from Monday, May 4 through Wednesday, May 6. If you wish to participate, please bring your non-perishable food items to the circular driveway outside Kellenberg Hall at Molloy between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. The Campus Ministries van will be parked in the circle, and all donations can be placed right in the van which will be open during that time.

To ensure the safety of those participating, everyone must wear a mask when dropping off items and drive through and exit the campus via the circular drive only. After the collection is completed, the Office of Campus Ministries will take the items to Island Harvest on Thursday, 5/7.

Sandwiches and Food Donations for the INN

As many of you know, the INN continues to be a community partner with the Molloy community. Our students and faculty have served in their soup kitchens for many years. Although they are not serving to large crowds as usual, the INN is still handing out sandwiches and other items to people as needed. If you wish to make sandwiches or donate food items to the INN, please refer to the list of items needed and drop off directly to the INN as indicated via this link. **Drop offs should be brought to the side door in the fenced in parking lot**

As a reminder, the Department of Health will contact you if there is any risk of exposure to a positive case, regardless of the source (at Molloy or elsewhere).

Molloy News

Molloy College announced today that it will begin housing visiting healthcare workers currently employed by Mercy Medical Center, in support of Long Island efforts to combat the Coronavirus. Molloy has agreed to host as many as 40 healthcare workers, including some of Mercy’s staff, using the College’s Maria Regina Hall. Molloy will make this temporary housing available at least through May 31.

Update on Room Requests

Due to COVID-19, all Molloy College buildings are closed until further notice. Therefore, any room reservations previously confirmed are void if they are scheduled to occur before New York State lifts all restrictions on non-essential gatherings.

Room requests for Fall 2020 will be accepted in priority order; however, those requests will be considered in accordance with New York State laws and regulations, as well as guidance from the CDC and Department of Health. Requests may remain pending until such regulations are determined, and approvals may be rescinded to comply with changing directives from the government.

  • May 1st to May 15: Office of the President, Office of Academic Affairs and Classes
  • May 15th to May 30: Office of Enrollment Management
  • June 1st to July 15: Office of Student Affairs
  • July 15: All others on a first-come, first-served basis

The taskforce continues to follow guidance from the New York State Department of Health, the Governor of New York, and the CDC. The guiding principle for this taskforce continues to be the health and safety of our entire campus community. Below is information pertaining to some events that were originally scheduled for this spring and summer:

  • Graduates have been informed that Commencement 2020 will not take place in person. A virtual ceremony will be held on May 18 and more information will be announced on the website at www.molloy.edu/commencement in the next few weeks. All 2020 graduates will be invited to the 2021 Commencement ceremony, to be held in May 2021.
  • All Molloy summer courses will take place via alternate delivery methods and will not meet for face to face instruction.
  • New Student Orientation, which was scheduled for July 2020, will now be an online experience and will not take place in person. More information to follow.
  • There will be no summer camps held at any Molloy location this summer. Additionally, Molloy College will not sponsor any in-person camps this summer at other locations.
  • Participants in professional development activities have been contacted by the Office of Professional Development and Continuing Education regarding the status of their programs.
  • Any events being hosted by outside groups at a Molloy location are cancelled through August 15.

News from the Governor’s Office

  • New Requirement to Wear Face Masks – Yesterday, Governor Cuomo issued an Executive Order requiring everyone over the age of 2, who does not have a prohibitive medical condition, to wear a face-covering on their nose and mouth when in a public place and unable to maintain, or when not maintaining, social distance. The directive goes into effect Friday, April 17 at 8 p.m. The Governor emphasized that a face-covering could include things like bandanas, old tee-shirts, etc. They do not need to be medical grade.
  • Extension of New York State on Pause —Today, Governor Cuomo announced that this directive would continue through May 15, effectively keeping schools and nonessential businesses closed through at least that date. Social distancing protocols (6 feet away from the other person) will remain in place.

Coronavirus Relief Check
The federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (“CARES Act”) authorized payments up to $1,200 to individual taxpayers to offset the economic impact of the coronavirus. You can check on the status of your payment using the IRS Get My Payment tool. As with every government assistance effort, crooks and scammers see this as an opportunity to defraud undiscerning taxpayers. Please take extra precautions and remember that the IRS will never contact anyone by telephone, email, social media or text message to ask for personal information. If you believe you have been a victim of an IRS-related scam, please contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.

To the Molloy College Community,

We hope you had a wonderful Easter and Passover and were able to enjoy some time off. If you have not yet had a chance to read President Bogner’s Easter message, please go here.

Today, we wanted to share some of the positive impacts of social distancing in New York and throughout the United States.

The number of new positive cases in New York has decreased every day since April 8 and the number of new hospitalizations in New York is at its lowest point since data collection began on March 16. This evidence suggests that the state's hospitals will have enough beds for all patients who become infected and that New York has effectively flattened the curve.

Further, the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), the forecasting model used by the US Coronavirus Task Force, has drastically altered its projections due to the effectiveness of social distancing as well as an increase in reliable hospitalization data. In less than two weeks, the estimate of deaths has been reduced by over 1/3 and the number of beds needed has decreased almost 3/4 for the entire United States.

Even though we are seeing increasingly optimistic projections, they are all based on the premise that we maintain social distancing. It is critical that we continue to practice social distancing and limit face-to-face contact with others.

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light."-Isaiah 9:2

This passage from the Old Testament speaks to us in the present day. Who among us has not felt that we were walking in darkness; that we are having difficulty seeing that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel?

For some, the loss of livelihood, closeness and those all-important hugs, have indeed left a great sense of concern, fear and isolation. For others, watching and waiting for someone to recover has been painful and, most assuredly, the greatest form of heartache has been the unfathomable loss of a loved one. To those most especially, I offer my condolences and prayers.

But, here we are celebrating life on Easter morning! On Easter, we, as Christians, celebrate life and the opportunity for new beginnings. Daily life as we know it will not be the same but we can focus on ways in which we can come together to celebrate all that is good.

Whether you celebrate Easter or another religious observance this month, this is a sacred time for many; it is Spring, a time for rebirth and renewal. The Molloy Community has been and will continue to be a source of inspiration and serve as leaders in the quest to help others, including the greater community around us. I wish to thank you for all you have done to keep our communities safe and for serving as examples of how we treat and care for others.

Gandhi said, "be the change you want to see in the world." At this time in our lives, let's be the light we know the world needs to see.

During this season of Easter and Passover, many of us will not celebrate with our friends and families as we traditionally do. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone during this difficult time.

We are all confronting COVID-19 in a variety of ways, from experiencing symptoms ourselves to tending to family members who have contracted the coronavirus, dealing with the reality of friends and family members dying from this dreadful virus, or those passing from other causes. Many of us are experiencing difficulty managing our sudden shift to learning and working remotely, while attending to the needs of our families. We ask everyone to take a moment to pause, reflect, and say a prayer.

Please continue to practice social distancing while celebrating the holidays, use cloth face coverings when going out in public and follow the CDC’s most recent guidelines on running essential errands.

Today, we wish to lend our hearts to those in need and express our gratitude to those on the front lines for all of the work they are doing to keep us safe and alive. We continue to receive stories from alumni, faculty, employees and current students who are finding ways to help all of us in our communities or while in the hospital. We are grateful for their work and others who are working to keep us safe and fed.

Governor Cuomo announced today that he is extending “New York State on Pause” through April 29th. There will continue to be a 100% reduction in non-essential workforce until this date and all Molloy College buildings will remain closed until further notice.

  • The Molloy College Mental Health and Wellness Center (MHWC), a service of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (CMHC), is now offering affordable and accessible teletherapy services for individuals in our community. They also offer virtual mental health and wellness workshops free of charge to the Molloy community and are working to also provide short-term counseling for individuals working on the front lines free of charge. Fees

A credit adjustment for applicable course fees and undergraduate student activities fee will be pro-rated and made to your student account. Please allow 45 days for the student account and financial aid records to be adjusted. We appreciate your patience during this process. More information here.

Grades

An extension will be given to the deadline for pass/fail, giving you an option. Please see the message from Dr. Ann Branchini. Students must complete an Add/Drop/Withdrawal form, which is available in Lion’s Den, stating they request P/F grading, signed by their advisor and submitted by their advisor to the Registrar's Office. The deadline to file is Tuesday, April 14. Please contact the Registrar’s Office at registration@molloy.edu.

GPA Waived for Scholarships

Students who do not meet the minimum GPA requirement needed at the end of the Spring ’20 semester to maintain their institutional scholarship or grant will not be put on probation for Fall ’20 and therefore will not lose their institutional awards for the 2020-21 academic year. Message to Employees from Dr. Drew Bogner

New York State will stay on PAUSE through April 15
That means the non-essential workforce is directed to continue to work from home until at least April 15. We will re-evaluate every two weeks.

Pharmacies will now offer free home delivery to New Yorkers.
After speaking with the state's major pharmacy chains, pharmacies have agreed to offer free home delivery to help reduce long lines for prescriptions at their facilities.

Molloy Stories of Inspiration

Today’s story focuses on the personal touch of the Molloy Nursing Student Association, whose members immediately started thinking about ways to be of service as the coronavirus pandemic began to affect our local communities. Learning about the restrictions placed on the elderly, particularly in residential nursing homes, inspired them to embark on a good old-fashioned letter-writing campaign. These action-oriented students will be taking over our Molloy College Instagram feed this Sunday, March 29. You can read more about their work here. We want to hear from you. Special Accommodation for Employees who are Classified as Higher Risk

In an earlier memo to the Molloy College community, all members of our community who are classified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to be at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19 or who care for or live with someone that is classified as higher risk, were encouraged to remain home through March 27. Those who are at higher risk include:

  • People aged 60 years or older
  • People with underlying medical conditions: (and a list followed)

Positive thinkers that we were, the supervisors were told these would expire March 27. These accommodations have been extended until further notice.

We have received a self-reported positive COVID-19 case from an individual who was last on campus on Friday, March 20 2020. We are working with Nassau County Department of Health. This individual was in rooms throughout Hagan and Kellenberg. As per the Nassau County Department of Health, if you were in these spaces on or between Friday, March 20 and Sunday, March 22, please monitor your symptoms until April 3, 2020 and call your primary care physician if you feel flu-like symptoms. All Molloy locations visited by this individual will be deeply and thoroughly cleaned while the buildings are still closed.

Sick Time for Employees – Additional Information

Molloy is committed to the health and well-being of the College community and wants to assure its employees that sick time and other time away from work policies remain in effect as follows:

Nassau County’s Collecting Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for First Responders and Healthcare Providers

Nassau County is collecting PPE to be distributed to first responders and healthcare providers Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Field 3 in Eisenhower Park. They are in need of packaged, unopened bulk quantities of gloves, masks, sanitizer, shoe covers, and other equipment.

Dear Friends,

We send our good wishes to you and your families during this ongoing healthcare crisis. Here at Molloy College, we have been immersed in doing what we can to protect our students, employees, and the community while continuing to help our students finish the semester.

As part of that effort, we sadly must postpone the celebration event on April 19th where we were to honor our President, Drew Bogner, and the many accomplishments of Molloy over the past 20 years. We know there is much to celebrate, and we hope to do so in the not too distant future when we are able to arrive on the other side of this worldwide emergency. Your health and safety and that of the many others who were looking forward to being with us is our major concern at this point in time.

We will remain in touch with updates as we move forward. In the meantime, we are thankful to so many for their participation and support of the President Bogner Legacy Scholarship. We are writing to provide you with information as a follow up to yesterday’s email from Dr. Bogner. Although a member of our community tested positive for COVID-19, the Nassau County Department of Health has informed us that there was no threat of exposure to the community.

We will continue to follow guidance from the New York State Department of Health. Due to increased testing in New York, we expect more and more members of our community to test positive for COVID-19. We were made aware this evening that an individual from the Molloy College community has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual was last at the Rockville Centre campus on March 10, 2020. The individual was only at the Rockville Centre campus. Please know that all locations on campus that the individual visited have since been deep cleaned and disinfected by our custodial staff. The Department of Health has been notified and informed us that this is not an emergency. The case will be more thoroughly reviewed some time tomorrow, March 23, 2020. If the Department of Health tells us to share any further details with you, we will. We remain committed to keeping the community informed and will continue to update you regularly.

Dealing With Anxiety and Stress

  • The CDC has published guidelines to help us manage matters of anxiety and stress. The College also has an Employee Assistance Program. See next section.
  • The Office of Campus Ministries will continue to be a resource for students and employees to talk on an individual basis. If any member of the Molloy community feels they need support, someone to talk to, or resources to continue spiritual growth at home, they are welcome to contact either campus minister.   • Paper Clip Communications has offered this self-care and support calendar as well as other resources.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The College’s EAP program through Carebridge Corporation provides 24-hour confidential guidance, resources and referrals at no cost to Molloy employees and their family members. Events and Meetings (College-Wide)

All events and meetings of 10 or more people are cancelled or postponed at all Molloy locations for the remainder of the spring semester. More information to follow. Commencement will NOT take place on May 18, 2020 at Nassau Coliseum. We will update you soon with the details for this year’s Commencement celebration.

Lessing's Dining Services

Lessing’s will continue to operate from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Monday through Friday with Grab and Go items in the Anselma Room only. The Public Square Eateries will not be open or operating at this time.

Molloy College Food Pantry

The food pantry will be available for anyone who needs to access it from 1:00-2:00 pm on Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24. Please go to the lobby of Maria Regina Residence Hall and a Student Affairs staff member will assist you.

Travel

For everyone’s safety, we want to remind you that it is important that the College knows where members of the campus community have traveled or are planning to travel so that we may assist the Department of Health in tracking possible exposures. For this reason, we request that all faculty, staff and students who have traveled abroad in the previous fourteen (14) days or who are planning to travel internationally in the foreseeable future, fill out this form. If traveling, please ensure that you are aware of your individual health insurance plan, particularly coverage outside of the United States.

Since the College remains open and employees are working remotely, we are strongly encouraging you NOT to put an “Out of Office” message on your email accounts unless it is absolutely necessary. In the event that you do need to create an “Out of Office” message, please do NOT state that “the College is closed” as this might be misinterpreted to mean that the College’s operations and services are not available. The language provided above for Voice Mail can be used for email but only if absolutely necessary.

Technology support will be available for employees and students of the College during any periods of instructional, administrative or operational changes. The first is the health and safety of every member of the Molloy community and second, a commitment to help our students complete this Spring semester of their education.

Discrimination/Privacy

In addition to safeguarding the health and safety of our community, Molloy is committed to ensuring that all students and employees are able to learn and work in an environment that is free from bias or discrimination. All reports of discrimination are taken seriously and will be properly investigated and resolved through our administrative procedures. Under our policy, all complaints of harassment should be directed to the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, Lisa Miller, at 516.323.3046 or submitted through EthicsPoint.

We urge everyone not to make determinations of risk based on race or country of origin. Further, please maintain the privacy of people with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 infection. Gossip and stigma will not make you safer nor will they assist in ending this pandemic.

Events or Meetings Hosted or Run by an External Party

All events or meetings hosted or run by an external party, at any Molloy location, with more than 10 attendees, are canceled until further notice. If you have an already scheduled event, please contact Molly Ballerstein immediately at mballerstein@molloy.edu.

Internal Molloy Meetings Hosted by Molloy College

All internal meetings and gatherings are currently limited to 50 people but, social distancing efforts must be exercised. This means that the room in which the event is held must operate at no more than 50% of its maximum occupancy and should be set up in a way so no attendees will be within 6 feet of each other. For example, if the maximum occupancy of a room is 20, no more than 10 people would be permitted in that room at one time. Quarantine/Isolation

During the last few days/weeks, you may have heard that people are being asked to “quarantine” or “isolate”. We think it is important to understand what this means and why you may be asked to do so. Quarantine and Isolation help protect the public by preventing exposure to people who have or may have COVID-19. In New York state,

  • Quarantine means the separation of a person or group of people reasonably believed to have been exposed to COVID-19 but not yet symptomatic, from others who have not been exposed. A person will be asked to quarantine if (i) they have been in close contact (within 6 feet) with someone who is positive; or (ii) they have traveled to China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, or any country in Europe. Assuming the person remains asymptomatic, the length of the quarantine is (i) 14 days from the last date of contact with the positive person; or (ii) 14 days from the date they returned to the United States.
  • Isolation means the separation of a person or group of people known or reasonably believed to be infected with COVID-19 from those who are not infected. A person will be asked to isolate if they have tested positive for COVID-19. Their local health department will determine the length of isolation. If a member of the Molloy community believes they should be in quarantine or isolation, they should contact the local health department in the county in which they reside as well as Molloy’s Student Health Services Office at 516.323.3467.

We are contacting you to inform you of updates related to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) on the Molloy College community. We have bulleted those updates and decisions, below, for your convenience. More information to follow.

• Currently, there are no confirmed COVID-19 cases at any Molloy location.

• We will continue alternate delivery instruction methods for the remainder of the Spring semester. All face to face instruction has been suspended for the remainder of the Spring semester. The library will only be available virtually for the remainder of the semester.

• All physical locations will reopen on Sunday, March 22. Employees who perform functions critical to the operations of the College, which cannot be done remotely, will be informed by their supervisor regarding their need to report to their office beginning Monday, March 23. All other employees are expected to work remotely. If you have received an accommodation from Human Resources, that will continue to be in effect. A follow-up email will be sent regarding technology for those working remotely.

• Residence halls will remain open for anyone with special circumstances.

• The College will be suspending recruitment for non-faculty positions until further notice.

• In keeping with the recommendations made by the CDC, we are exploring options for all events through the month of May.

Beginning Tuesday, March 17 through Saturday, March 21, all Molloy College physical locations (RVC, Suffolk Center, 30 Hempstead, CERCOM and 50 Broadway) will be closed. During this time, the College will be performing a deep clean at all campus locations.

Employees are expected to work remotely and are encouraged to obtain any items needed to do so from their offices on Monday, March 16. IT is working in conjunction with the Leadership of the College to ensure that employees have the ability to perform critical functions from their homes. We will be working throughout the day Monday to provide employees with the access and "technology tools" they need.

Please know this action is taking place in response to the Governor's announcement earlier today and subsequent decisions in which all Nassau and Suffolk County K-12 public and private schools will be closed for the next two weeks.

Canvas Tutorials/Technology Learning Services

College Operations

The Spirit Store and mailroom will be open from 9am-3pm beginning Monday, March 16. Mailroom staff will call if your department has a package.

The Fitness Center will remain closed until further notice.

Shuttle service will stop at 9:15 p.m. on March 13 and will resume on March 30.

All Public Square eateries will remain closed until further notice.

Given the Governor’s prohibition of gatherings in venues of 500 seats or more, all internal and external events in the Madison Theatre are hereby cancelled. This policy will continue until at least April 12.

All winter and spring Molloy Athletics’ seasons have been cancelled, effective immediately. The Manhattan Center’s hours will be 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., Mon-Fri, effective immediately.

Commencement

At this time, plans for Commencement are unchanged. However, this is subject to change based on the guidance of health officials. Any changes will be announced on the Commencement web page, and the campus will be notified.

Continuing Education 

All Continuing Education (non-credit) classroom courses are running as scheduled at our Rockville Centre and Suffolk Center locations.

James E. Tobin Library

During Spring Break, Saturday, March 14 - Sunday, March 22, 2020, the James E. Tobin Library will be physically closed but remain virtually open. Please refer to the prepared guide that informs students and faculty of all available services.

Paychecks/Timesheets

Payroll will continue to be processed during this time. All timesheets need to be submitted to Robert Carlson at RCarlson@molloy.edu and Josie Bello at JBello@molloy.edu. If a timesheet cannot be submitted, supervisors can email the hours to Bob and Josie by Monday 12 noon during payroll week. We want to ensure salary continuation. If we do not receive timesheets or an email with hours worked, then we will pay based on the base hours worked from the previous payroll and true up any additional hours, vacation, sick, personal, or overtime at a later date.

Higher Risk Individuals

Please review the current CDC guidelines for an updated list of individuals who are at a higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19. Employees who are at higher risk should complete the Healthcare Accommodation Request Form. Air Travel

The College is suspending all college-sponsored airline travel, international or domestic, through March 28. Additionally, employees are not permitted to purchase any conference related expenses (hotel, transportation, conference fees, etc.) until further notice.

International Travel

The CDC has issued a Level 2 travel advisory and the Department of State has issued a Level 3 health advisory for the entire globe. All members of the Molloy Community should reconsider travel anywhere outside of the United States. If you have traveled internationally in the previous 14 days or have plans to travel internationally through April 30, please complete the International Travel Screening form. If you are traveling to the Schengen Area of Europe (which includes 26 countries) in the next 30 days, please be mindful that you may be subject to additional screenings and restrictions upon your return to the United States. For more information see the Department of Homeland Security website.

Public Transportation

While public transportation is currently running, the College, following the advice of the MTA Chairman, urges its community to take alternate travel or at least attempt to avoid crowded buses and trains.

Larger Gatherings

Dear Students,

As we continue to navigate the Coronavirus outbreak, each hospital has placed restrictions on students’ access to various settings, clinical units, and equipment. At this point, these restrictions may affect successful completion of your clinical hours. Therefore, we are suspending ALL clinical rotations for undergraduate nursing students, effective immediately until March 28. We hope that as time passes the situation will settle and we will resume clinical rotations. This does not apply to students in masters or doctoral programs.

Please note that capstone clinical students, may continue hours, agency by agency at their discretion. At this point we have only been told of four that will not permit students.

As you know, the global coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is a major concern for all. The health and well-being of Molloy College students and employees is our primary concern. Therefore, two weeks ago, we formed a Coronavirus Response Team, which has been meeting regularly to monitor the situation.

As of today, no one in the Molloy community has tested positive for COVID-19; however, out of an abundance of caution and concern, Molloy College has decided that effective Wednesday, March 11, 2020, all academic credit coursework will transition to an alternate delivery modality, i.e., live-streaming, online lectures, projects, etc. While it is difficult to project the trajectory of the outbreak, we will continue in an alternate delivery modality through March 28, 2020. The College will continue to monitor the situation and communicate any alteration to the plan.

Students who are involved in a clinical placement, internship, field placement, etc. will continue in these critical educational activities as is feasible. The Dean will determine, in conjunction with our educational partners, the frequency of those activities. The College is in contact with those facilities, including medical facilities, that are responding to the evolving concerns associated with COVID-19. Medical facilities and schools, in particular, are required to comply with the guidelines established by the Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control to ensure that their communities remain safe.

Services that support the education and well-being of our students will be available remotely. These include:

• Enrollment services, including Financial Aid, Registrar and Bursar

Employees’ health and safety is also a priority. Since Molloy will continue to offer its educational programs, the College will continue to offer various services. As is practical, some employees will work remotely from home. We will be determining what work needs to be delivered on-site and what work can be done remotely. We will be doing that analysis through Friday, March 13. It is also important for those employees who are at a higher risk to inform their supervisors so that face-to-face contact on campus can be limited.

In addition, the College is canceling a number of events with the exception of athletic events effective Wednesday, March 11 through Saturday, March 28 and will communicate promptly regarding any changes to that schedule. Meetings will continue as scheduled unless notified. Continuing Education and Professional Studies’ activities will continue as originally planned.

At this time, the College remains open but classes are moving to an alternate modality. Additional pertinent information will be sent by separate communication. Please continue to check your email and our website for up-to-date information.

With spring break approaching, we write to provide you with some information and updates on health and travel advisories related to the novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). First and foremost, the health and safety of the campus community is our highest priority and we want to assure you that there is no immediate threat to the Molloy College community.  The College is open, classes remain as scheduled and all updates will be posted on the Molloy College website. Please know that our Coronavirus Response Team is continuing to monitor the situation and develop plans along with our local health partners. We are also working with students on campus and those returning from abroad to ensure their questions and concerns are addressed. The following information outlines important safety precautions, instructions and travel requirements for anyone traveling outside the United States:  

Travel Advisories:

While there are no known cases on campus, the potential public health threat posed by COVID-19 is high, globally and in the United States. If you are planning on any travel during spring break and/or in the near future, we urge you to check the CDC and the US Department of State guidelines for the latest developments. Please note that these guidelines are subject to change at any time.

As of now, we advise that all travel to CDC Warning Level 2 and 3 countries should be canceled or deferred to a later date. The U.S. government has taken the following steps in response to COVID-19:

  • Effective Feb. 2, 2020, the U.S. Government suspended entry of foreign nationals who have been in China within the past 14 days.
  • On February 29, 2020, the U.S. Government announced it was suspending entry of foreign nationals who have been in Iran within the past 14 days.
  • U.S. citizens, residents, and their immediate family members who have been in Hubei province and other parts of mainland China are allowed to enter the United States, but they are subject to health monitoring and possible quarantine for up to 14 days.

As of today, CDC travel guidance related to COVID-19:

  • China, Italy, Iran and South Korea - Warning Level 3, Avoid Nonessential Travel 
  • Japan - Alert Level 2, Practice Enhanced Precautions
  • Hong Kong - Watch Level 1, Practice Usual Precautions
  • Cruise ship voyages into or within Asia should be reconsidered at this time.  

New Travel Registration Requirement:

Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, it is important that the College knows where members of the campus community have traveled or are planning to travel so that we may assist the Department of Health in tracking possible exposures. For this reason, we request that all faculty, staff and students who have traveled abroad in the previous fourteen (14) days or who are planning to travel in the foreseeable future, fill out this form.

If traveling, please ensure that you are aware of your individual health insurance plan, particularly coverage outside of the United States.  

Seeking Treatment:

If you develop symptoms associated with COVID-19 while traveling, the College encourages you to contact a healthcare professional for guidance. Be sure to mention any recent travel or close contact with a confirmed COVID-19 patient. Your healthcare professional will work with your state's or country's public health department and the CDC to determine if you need to be tested for COVID-19.

Individuals with confirmed diagnoses may not return to campus until receiving medical clearance and after following the guidelines for return, below.

Returning to Campus:

Individuals traveling from any country that the CDC classifies as a Warning Level 2 or 3 (avoid non-essential travel) will not be allowed to return to campus until they are 14 days without symptoms from the date of arrival in the United States (or the CDC-recommended quarantine period). For anyone traveling from a country that the CDC classifies as Alert Level 1, the College may restrict access to campus for the CDC-recommended period of time.

If your return to campus is delayed due to exposure to COVID-19, students should contact student health services and their faculty member to make appropriate arrangements for their coursework. Faculty and staff should notify their supervisor/department chair/dean and the Office of Human Resources.

Summer Plans:

Students who are planning to travel out of the country this summer for internships or as part of an academic program should consider alternate arrangements in the event those programs are canceled due to travel and health advisories. It is important to be in touch with the office or department that is advising you on the internship or academic program to discuss the various options. If you live in countries classified as CDC Warning Level 2 or 3 and plan to go home for summer break, we encourage you to contact Student Health Services to discuss the possible impact and options available to you

Faculty and staff who are planning to travel out of the country this summer should take travel and health advisories under advisement when making plans.

Remember, there are many people who can offer support, including Academic Support Services, Student Affairs, Student Health Services, The Student Personal Counseling Center, Campus Ministries, Residence Life and the Employee Assistance Program.

As a follow up to the communications recently shared with you from Student Health Services, please know that Molloy College continues to closely monitor the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization's (WHO) statements regarding the COVID-19 outbreak. The well-being of our students and employees is our first priority and a dedicated team is meeting regularly to coordinate and advance college-wide actions and communications on this topic. 

We will continue to monitor developments and provide communications via email and through the Student Health and Wellness webpage.

In light of the continuing spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in areas outside the United States, Molloy has decided out of an abundance of caution for the health of its students and employees, to cancel all scheduled upcoming Study Abroad Programs. While we understand this decision causes inconvenience and disappointment, we believe it is the prudent thing to do at this time.
