Spanish Literature and Culture

In this course, participants will engage in a professional exchange of ideas surrounding the 2013 revised AP Spanish Literature and Culture course. Participants will examine components of the AP Curriculum Framework including learning objectives, descriptions of expected student performance, the reading list, literary terms, and themes and essential questions. Participants should be familiar with all of these texts prior to the course. For an accurate list, participants should access the College Board website at We will discuss models of instructional design for the course that uses themes and essential questions to make comparisons across literary periods and genres. Participants will also review various authentic audio texts and artistic representations related to course content. They will examine sample questions for multiple choice and free response sections of the exam. Participants are encouraged to bring their own texts or anthologies containing the majority of these works. This course will be conducted in Spanish.

Application & Registration Instructions

The AP* Summer Institutes may either be taken for 3 graduate credits for $900 (no additional fees) or on a non-credit basis for in-service credits for $795 (no additional fees). You tuition includes: complimentary continental breakfast and lunch each day, approved College Board materials, complimentary textbooks (depending upon the institute) and a binder of handouts from the instructor.

You must attend each day to receive in-service credit. If you are taking the course for graduate credit, in addition to attending the institute each day, there is a project that is due within 2 weeks of the conclusion of the institute.
The registration deadline is three weeks prior to the start date of each institute. Late registration may be possible if space and materials are still available.
