The Office of Mission Integration at Molloy University invites you to Celebrating Catholic-Jewish Relations and Nostra Aetate 60 Years Later
Sixty years ago, on October 28, 1965, the Roman Catholic Church at the Second Vatican Council issued Nostra Aetate: Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions. The document did more than embrace dialogue with other religions. The centerpiece of the document both rejects antisemitism and inaugurates a new Catholic understanding of Judaism.
Please join Molloy University and AJC Long Island for a fascinating conversation with Rev. Walter F. Kedjierski and Rabbi Noam Marans as they discuss the implications of the Nostra Aetate declaration, how it has impacted Catholic-Jewish relations in the past sixty years, and how it may help shape the future of these relations. January 27 being International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we will also delve into the role that the Holocaust played in setting this new path for Catholic-Jewish relations.
We will also hear from three prominent members of Long Island’s Congressional delegation, who are Catholic Americans: Congresswoman Laura Gillen, Congressman Nick LaLota, and Congressman Tom Suozzi. They will discuss their relationships with the Jewish community, Catholic-Jewish Relations on Long Island, and their role as elected officials in making sure that Long Island’s communities are protected and can thrive.
