Planning to use AI when applying? Read this first.

Your application and admissions essays are where we get to know you. They give us insight into your voice, your story, and the perspective you will bring to Molloy University. Over-reliance on AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude or the many other generative AI tools that exist, risks weakening your authentic expression and could compromise your ability to be admitted to Molloy. While we understand that AI has become a common tool, using it in place of your own ideas and writing takes away from the individuality, creativity, and honesty we value in our applicants.

Unethical uses of AI for Molloy admissions essays

  • Copying and pasting directly from an AI generator
  • Allowing AI to draft or write your essay for you
  • Substituting your natural voice and tone with AI-generated writing
  • Using AI to translate an essay written in another language without representing your own writing ability

REMEMBER – You know it's inappropriate for someone else to write your essay for you and this applies to AI as well.

Examples of ethical uses of AI for Molloy admissions essays

  • Using essay refinement tools like Kollegio.ai, Grammarly or Microsoft Editor to polish a completed essay
  • Asking AI to generate practice questions or brainstorming prompts to help you get started
  • Using AI to learn more about the college application process in general

Your writing should be a reflection of your experiences, allow you to think about your goals and educational aspirations, and share what makes you you. Your voice matters, don’t let AI tools take it away.

At Molloy University and in keeping with the principles of our Dominican tradition, we value integrity, honesty, and respect. Just as Molloy students are expected to uphold these values and the Academic Honor Pledge in their academic work, we expect applicants to approach their application and admissions essay with the same commitment to authenticity.
