Academic Standards and Requirements

Students interested in preparing for a career in Social Work should consult with the Baccalaureate Program Director, Lisa Newland Ph.D. Students who declare Social Work as a major program of study may begin taking introductory courses in Social Work (SWK 2400 and SWK 2500) in their sophomore year. Applications must be completed and the student must be accepted into the program prior to taking any additional courses in Social Work. In order to gain admission to the program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Overall 2.7 cumulative index prior to admittance into the Social Work Program
  • Submit an application and personal essay
  • Interview with the Director of the Baccalaureate Social Work Program

Additional Program Requirements

  • Completion of General Education, major and related requirements
  • A grade of C+ or better in all Social Work courses. Students may NOT carry more than one grade of C+ in Social Work courses
  • Overall index of 2.7
  • Students may NOT withdraw from the same Social Work course more than twice
  • Any Social Work course may be repeated once. Failure to attain a grade of C+ or better when taking the same course for the second time necessitates dismissal from the program
  • Additionally, a 2.7 cumulative index is required in order to begin field placement
