Music Therapy Faculty Works with Syrian RefugeesIn January, Music Therapy faculty member Yasmine Iliya, PhD, MT-BC, LCAT was invited by UNICEF and Music as a Global Resource, Inc. to develop a music therapy pilot program for Syrian refugee children in Azraq Camp, Jordan. Along with colleague Dr. Brian Harris, Yasmine spent a week visiting the refugee camp, which currently houses approximately 35,000 Syrian refugees. She and Brian met with children and adults and had the opportunity to sing, listen, and dance to their music. The development of a sustainable, localized, and culturally appropriate music therapy program will be forthcoming.
