Michael Kelliher, music therapist at The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy at Molloy College, was awarded the Mid-Atlantic Region of the American Music Therapy Association Collaborative Research Grant for his study entitled: The Effectiveness of Improvisational Music Therapy Techniques on Levels of Engagement with Children with Autism: A Microanalysis Study.
Along with the Rebecca Center for Music Therapy, Michael will be collaborating with researchers from the University of Tennessee to examine the level of engagement of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in response to music therapist mediated clinical improvisational techniques. This will be the first music therapy study to examine the effectiveness as well as the sequencing of improvisational clinical techniques with children with ASD.
