Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Music Therapy
Dr. Suzanne Sorel, D.A., M.T.-B.C., L.C.A.T, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapist, is Chairperson of the Music department, Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Music Therapy at Molloy College where she has been teaching since 1991. She consults at the Rebecca Center for Music Therapy, Molloy's on-campus clinic, and oversees the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy training housed at the Rebecca Center. Between 1990 and 2003, Dr. Sorel practiced music therapy at the Nordoff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy at New York University and has achieved Level III instructor Certification in the Nordoff-Robbins approach. Dr. Sorel received her B.S. in Music Therapy at State University of New York at New Paltz and her Master's and Doctor of Arts degrees from New York University. Since 1987, she has worked with a variety of populations including children and adults with autism, developmental disabilities, physical disabilities, speech and language delays and psychiatric disorders. Her research and teaching interests include all aspects of improvisational music therapy and humanistic-centered treatment planning, as well as in the hands-on training of music therapists, music therapy educators and future music therapists. In the past 30 years, Dr. Sorel has been a frequent presenter at national and international conferences and invited workshops, and has published multiple studies and chapters in music therapy texts, as well as six compositions for use in music therapy and music education.
