Languages and Cultures

Embark on an exciting journey through words, thoughts and diverse cultures and straight to a successful career with the undergraduate modern languages program at Molloy College on Long Island, New York.

Here, you'll learn Spanish, Italian, French, Arabic, Chinese or English as a Second Language (ESL) in innovative ways that utilize state-of-the-art technology and focus on diverse facets of communication. At Molloy, we believe that learning a language is not just about grammar rules and vocabulary lists; it's about learning new sounds, discovering different expressions and finding a whole new way to look at things. It's learning how to understand and function in another culture from the inside out.

The Molloy modern language curriculum reflects that belief with:

  • A comprehensive approach that incorporates speaking, listening, reading and writing tasks. These are invaluable tools that will guide you to competency in another language along with literature, film, art, history, songs and television clips that bring you closer to understanding its culture and help your language-learning experience come alive.
  • A dedicated, distinguished faculty and small class environment that foster and broaden your understanding and appreciation of other cultures, while you learn to demonstrate knowledge and competence in a second language.
  • A solid interdisciplinary foundation that you can apply to any other field of study or profession, including business, communication, education, international relations, health or social services, translation or law enforcement. Combine a major in Spanish with a degree in childhood education and become a LOTE (Language Other Than English) teacher.
  • Progressive and inspiring ways to learn, including service-learning, internship opportunities and our global learning programs in Spain and Italy. We encourage you to take advantage of these month-long or semester-long study programs and immerse yourself in the language, the culture and the beauty of this country.
