The course will be taught using an online platform call Zoom (which is a synchronous platform, meaning that it is taught "live"). Shortly before the course start date you will receive an email to join the course using Zoom at specific dates and times. When you are using Zoom the faculty member andstudents will all login online at the same time that the course would normally be held. Here are some of the key points about Zoom: - Students can use any type of device that has internet access: PC, Mac, tablet, even a smartphone. Whatever information a faculty member has on their screen (PowerPoints, handouts, videos, etc.) you will see on your device. - A camera is not necessary, but if you do have one the faculty member will be able to see you. - Students can call in using a phone line, by using the microphone and speakers on the computer, or by using a headphone with a microphone. - During part of the class, especially while the faculty member is lecturing, you will probably be put you on mute. Otherwise any background noise: breathing, dog barking, doorbell ringing, is going to come through.
