Solutions for Successful Telehealth Music Therapy

Conference Description
This course will include an outline for music therapists to establish telehealth music therapy practice and increase the quality of the interactions through telecommunication services. A brief overview of the fundamentals of telehealth will be shared followed by an in-depth look into various methods to provide unique and musically rich experiences for the clients we serve. Topics will include fundamentals, ethics, optimizing audio and video quality, music-centered practice, hardware options, and software recommendations including DAW, MIDI, and VST. The course information is drawn from the evidence-based practice of multiple music therapy clinics working together to establish a standard of practice. Clinical excerpts will be shared to illustrate applications.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will demonstrate their ability to integrate current technology and interactive media by incorporating digital instruments into a musical experience through a video communication service. (III. 5. F. 1. X)

Participants will identify one strategy to modify their telehealth equipment to increase the quality of music experiences facilitated over telehealth. (II. D. 11.)

Speaker:  

Nick Far, M.S., MT-BC, LCAT is a Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapist, Director of Music Therapy at The Music Academy for Special Learners, and an Adjunct Professor at Hofstra University and Adjunct Instructor  at Molloy College. He received his Masters of Science degree in Music Therapy from Molloy College, Bachelors of Science degree in Music Therapy and Bachelors of Music in Guitar Performance from Utah State University. Nick is currently completing his Nordoff-Robbins Level 2 certification under the supervision of Dr. Alan Turry. He is currently researching music-centered music therapy through telehealth services. Nick has a diverse background in clinical approaches of music therapy and has presented at various professional music therapy conferences.

This conference is approved by the Certification Board for Music Therapists, approval number: P-102, to award 2 Continuing Music Therapy Education Synchronous (in-person) Opportunities. The Provider maintains responsibility for program quality and adherence to CBMT Policies and Criteria for Continuing Music Therapy Education.

NYS Licensed Creative Arts Therapists: LCAT
Molloy College is an approved provider for CE credit from NY State for Licensed Creative Arts Therapists: approval number CAT-0015. This program is offered for 2 hours of CEU credit for Licensed Creative Arts Therapists.

Registration is limited. Registration the day of the conference is on a space available basis and cannot be guaranteed (there are limits, even with an online program).

The conference will be conducted through a live, "real-time" online platform called Zoom. The conference will be held at the same date and times as indicated in the schedule.
