CR-ITI Grant Program

The Clinically Rich Intensive Teacher Institute in Bilingual Education and English to Speakers of Other Languages (CR-ITI-BE/ESOL) Program is a 5-year, NYSED grant-supported program created to address the shortage of certified bilingual and English as a new language (ENL) teachers in New York State. Molloy College has collaborated with ten Long Island school districts:

· Bay Shore
· Brentwood
· Freeport
· Huntington
· Patchogue-Medford
· Roosevelt
· South Huntington
· Uniondale
· Westbury   

and the New York State Education Department (NYSED) to assist participants in meeting the requirements for Bilingual Education and/or ESOL certification extension. Full tuition assistance is provided for fifteen (15) credits of NYSED approved clinically-rich coursework to be completed within the designated time-frame at Molloy's Suffolk Center campus, located at 7180 Republic Airport, East Farmingdale, NY. While the CR-ITI-BE/ESOL program is open to all educators on Long Island, teachers from the ten partnering districts will have priority placement in the program since the cohort size is limited.

During each of the five (5) years of the grant, there will be five cohorts of 20 teachers each. Cohort I will run from January 2019-July 2019; Cohort II will run from September 2019-June 2020; Cohort III will run from September 2020-June 2021; Cohort IV will run from September 2021-June 2022; and Cohort V will run from September 2022-June 2023. Cohort I will only receive ESOL certification, whereas Cohorts II - V will receive Bilingual Education and/or ESOL certification.

Overview of Requirements 
•  Five courses: EDU 5130, 5140, 5253, 5255, 5256
·  CST in ESOL (NYSED)
•  Twelve (12) college credits in a language other than English
·   Superintendent's endorsement to be selected
•  CR-ITI graduates make a commitment to stay in the district for a minimum of two years
•   50 hours of job-embedded, peer supported field experience (Clinically Rich Internship)

Other Important Notes ·        
Even though the CR-ITI grant pays $300 per credit and the Molloy College graduate tuition rate is at $1,155 per credit plus fees, Molloy College will not charge accepted participants the difference when they enroll in the program and maintain a B average in the classes. All student fees and subscription to the Chalk & WireTM e-Portfolio system ($55. year) will also be waived. The only out-of-pocket financial expense participants will incur is purchasing the required textbooks for each course.
