Content Specialty Tests
To help you pass your content specialty test (CST), Molloy offers the following six workshops:
- Social Studies
- Students with Disabilities
- Multi-Subject (Grades 1-6)

The workshops are usually offered for three to six sessions, one or two nights a week or on Saturdays. Most workshops are offered at least once during the fall and possibly winter semesters.
The CST (Content Specialty Test) is required for professional certification in elementary (common branch), ESOL, and secondary academic subject titles. It is also required for initial certification in secondary academic subjects and 7-9 extensions of Pre K-6 certificates for candidates who do not possess a college concentration in the subject of the certificate. The test covers content in the subject, or subjects, that the corresponding certificate authorizes the holder to teach. The test format typically consists of multiple-choice questions and a written assignment. Tests in languages other than English involve audio taped listening and speaking sections.
You may wish to take the CST exam in your junior or senior year. Graduate Education candidates should take the CST as soon as you complete content area courses. This recommended schedule will allow you to prepare for one test at a time and will give you an opportunity to retake any of the tests, if needed, before completing your teacher preparation program.
