The Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies offers a number of professional development programs for teachers, as well as for teacher candidates.
Teacher Candidate Mandated Workshops
Please note that these workshops are still being offered online in real time using Zoom on the same days and times listed in the schedule of classes. Instructions for taking the course online will be sent to you by the instructor before the course begins.
Molloy Education students are required to complete 3 workshops and be fingerprinted to fulfill New York State requirements to be certified to teach. The following mandatory workshops are offered by the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies:
* School Violence Prevention and Intervention Workshop
* Training in the Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Neglect
* Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) Workshop
The workshops listed above are offered in the evenings and on Saturdays throughout the fall and spring. All of the above-mentioned workshops are offered at a discount to Molloy students. TESOL Certification Pathway: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate
The Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Certification: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate program is designed for teachers who hold a valid New York State Teaching Certificate and wish to earn TESOL Certification without an additional degree. Candidates must meet certain Content Core and Pedagogical Core requirements and must also meet any non-coursework requirements, such as the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations and fingerprint clearance, as specified. Graduate courses are offered in the program to assist teachers in meeting the Content and Pedagogical Core course requirements. Click here for more information.
Students with Disabilities Certification Pathways: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate
The Students with Disabilities: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate programs are designed for teachers who hold a valid New York State Teaching Certificate and wish to earn either Students with Disabilities Childhood 1-6 Certification or Students with Disabilities Adolescent 7-12 Certification without an additional degree. Candidates must meet certain Content Core and Pedagogical Core requirements and must also meet any non-coursework requirements, such as the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations and fingerprint clearance, as specified. Educational Technology Specialist Certification Pathway: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate
The Educational Technology Specialist Certification Pathway: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate courses are designed for teachers who hold a valid New York State Teaching Certificate and wish to earn Educational Technology Specialist Certification without having to earn an additional degree. Teachers can take these courses for professional development without going for certification. Candidates for certification must meet certain Content Core requirements and must also meet any non-coursework requirements, such as the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations and fingerprint clearance, as specified. Childhood Education Grades 1-6 Certification Pathway: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate
The Childhood Education Grades 1-6 Certification Pathway: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate courses are designed for teachers who hold a valid New York State Teaching Certificate and wish to earn Childhood Education Grades 1-6 Certification without having to earn an additional degree. Teachers can take these courses for professional development without going for certification. Candidates for certification must meet certain Content Core requirements and must also meet any non-coursework requirements, such as the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations and fingerprint clearance, as specified. Online Teacher Professional Development (Graduate Credit)
Our faculty-facilitated online professional development graduate courses for teachers are informative, convenient and highly interactive. Our instructors are famous for their ability to create warm and supportive communities of learners. All workshops run anywhere from one to four weeks and are offered for 3 graduate credits and 45 Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) credits at the discounted rate of $900 per course throughout the year. The courses are project-oriented and include lessons, hands-on assignments, discussion areas, supplementary links and more. Online Teacher Professional Development (In-Service Credit)
Our instructor-facilitated online professional development in-service workshops for teachers run for 6 weeks and are offered for 24 Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) credit at $115 per workshop throughout the year. The courses are project-oriented and include lessons, hands-on assignments, discussion areas, supplementary links and more. You can complete any course entirely from your home or school, any time of the day or night. For more information, click here.
Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE)
Beginning in the 2016/2017 school year, holders of professional certificates in classroom teaching or educational leadership must complete 100 hours of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) during each five year registration period. Permanent certificate holders do not need to complete 100 hours of professional development every five years.
- ESL or bilingual teachers must complete a minimum of 50% of the required CTLE hours in language acquisition, including a focus on best practices for co-teaching strategies.
- All other certificate holders must complete a minimum of 15% of the hours dedicated to language acquisition addressing the needs of ELL learners, including a focus on best practices for co-teaching strategies.
The CTLE professional development hours must be rigorous and completed through a sponsor approved by the State Education Department. Molloy College is an approved Sponsor of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), sponsor number 3216.
Molloy College offers professional development graduate credit courses to meet CTLE requirements in TESOL throughout the year, as well as graduate credit courses during the summer through the Summer Institutes for Teachers. Conferences and Online Teacher Professional Development courses are also offered throughout the year which meet CTLE requirements.

Content Specialty Test Preparation
For those of who need help passing the Content Specialty Tests (CSTs) in Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Spanish or Students with Disabilities and Multi-Subject (Grades 1-6), the Division also offers workshops in each of these areas. The CST Prep workshops are only offered once per year in the fall.

Advanced Placement Summer Institutes
Molloy College, through the Divisions of Education and Continuing Education and Professional Development, offers Summer Institutes for teachers of advanced placement high school courses. Institutes are taught by experienced teachers of A.P. and are endorsed by the College Board. Click here for the current schedule of classes.
English Language Arts
The Division of Education of Molloy College has established an English Language Arts Education Advisory Board to help improve ELA education. To this end, it is offering professional development by presenting topics of interest for teachers in the areas of English Language Arts. Summer Institutes for Teachers
Summer Institutes for Teachers - Molloy College Summer Institutes are all intensive week-long courses that are designed to be taken by teachers for professional development and are offered for either 3-graduate credits or 2 in-service continuing education credits. All of the Summer Institutes are at either our Rockville Centre Campus or at our Suffolk Center on the grounds of Republic Airport in East Farmingdale.
