Educational Technology Specialist Certification Pathway: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate

Teachers, earn an additional certification as an Educational Technology Specialist without having to earn another Master's Degree!

The Educational Technology Specialist Certification Pathway: Additional Classroom Teaching Certificate courses are designed for teachers who hold a valid New York State Teaching Certificate and wish to earn Educational Technology Specialist Certification without having to earn an additional degree. Teachers can take these courses for professional development without going for certification. Candidates for certification must meet certain Content Core requirements and must also meet any non-coursework requirements, such as the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations and fingerprint clearance, as specified. 30 graduate credits (10 courses) are offered in the program to assist teachers in meeting the 30 credit Content course requirements. New York State may accept up to 6 credits of educational technology course work from previous undergraduate or graduate courses.

Since this is a pathway to certification and does not lead to a degree, you must go to the NYS Office of Teaching Initiatives web page and file for Educational Technology Specialist certification. Do this as soon as possible - even before you enroll in any courses! You will be notified of anything additional you need to take or any missing requirements.

Schedule
All of the courses offered during the fall, spring, and summer semesters will be given in a hybrid format with 15 hours of in-class instruction, 15 hours of online work and additional assignments that will require teachers to use strategies and research concepts learned in class and online that would necessitate a minimum of an additional 15 hours to complete satisfactorily, for a total of 45 contact hours of instruction for each 3-credit course.

It is anticipated that courses will be offered starting in late January/early February 2018 at our Rockville Centre campus. The anticipated schedule will be that each course will be offered for 3 Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. However, additional locations, including Molloy's Suffolk Center in East Farmingdale, a site in Manhattan and additional sites at various school districts will be offered in the near future based upon need. Tuition
The courses will be offered at the discounted rate of $900 per course. The discounted program is limited to those teachers who are not using the credits towards a Molloy College degree and hold a valid New York State Teaching Certificate.

Please note: Your transcripts can only be evaluated online through the TEACH system, 518.474.3901. It is your responsibility to make sure that all requirements for certification have been met.

CTLE Credit

Information Session
An Information session for the program will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at our Rockville Centre campus located at 1000 Hempstead Avenue, Rockville Centre, NY 11571 in Siena Hall, Room 107. One session will be held from 4:15 - 5:15 p.m. and another session will be held from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Representatives from Molloy will explain the requirements for the Educational Technology Specialist Certification Pathway, the courses offered and the possible scheduling options for the coursework. We will also seek your feedback on your desired schedule and future locations of the courses. It is not necessary to bring anything to the session, including your transcripts.
