Friday, February 26, 2016; 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m. ● Artium, Molloy Suffolk Center campus
Lead Presenters and Conference Organizers:
Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld and Dr. Maria G. Dove
Join Dr. Andrea Honigsfeld and Dr. Maria G. Dove, renowned experts of coteaching for English learners for a half-day symposium exploring how to offer much needed leadership support for the implementation of the Integrated ENL program requirement of the new CR Part 154.
During the symposium, the presenters will discuss the following essential questions and offer ample examples and tools.
1. What are the nuts and bolts of coordinating an integrated ENL program?
2. Why do integrated ENL services make sense for English Language Learners? How can you get your teachers to "buy-in" to the practice?
3.How do leaders support teachers to develop and implement curriculum for the sake of ELLs? How might curriculum change yet maintain its rigor?
4. How do leaders support collaborative instructional and assessment practices for ELLs?
Intended audience: K-12 building and district administrators, department chairs, coaches, lead teachers
Dr. Honigsfeld and Dr. Dove's latest joint publication Collaboration and Coteaching for English Learners: A Leader's Guide will serve as the foundational resource and will be included in the registration fee. It is the leadership companion to their best-selling teacher's guide entitled Collaboration and CoTeaching: Strategies for English Learners, which cannot be more timely in light of the changes to CR-Part 154.
Consider Carol Wertheimer's review of the book. Carol was Andrea's first NYC principal, who introduced ESL coteaching at PS 68Q in the mid-1990s.
"Whether you are a beginning supervisor or an experienced administrator, you will appreciate what you can find in Collaboration and Co-Teaching: A Leader's Guide. Honigsfeld and Dove have written an invaluable resource for instructional leaders who work with English Language Learners. Filled with ideas and strategies, this user-friendly guide provides school leaders with tips and tools on working collaboratively for the success of our diverse learners."
The conference will be given in the Atrium on Molloy's Suffolk Center campus located at 7180 Republic Airport, East Farmingdale, NY 11735. Travel directions will be sent with your confirmation, but can also be downloaded by clicking here.
