Art Department Goals and Objectives

Goals

The goals are to:

  • Develop an aesthetic consciousness by studying artistic achievements from pre-history to contemporary times
  • Explore individual creativity and artistic proficiency in two and three dimensional media
  • Encourage artistic inspiration and innovation that reflects of an intellectual, conceptual and psychological foundations
  • Acquire a knowledge of the New York City's arts community of museums, galleries and agencies as possible employment opportunities

Objectives

Students will:

  • Develop an understanding of art history, from the past to the present and its implications in individual expression
  • Gain an awareness of the diversity of human artistic expression
  • Gain respect and appreciation of artistic creation from western and non-western cultures
  • Develop critical thinking in analysis and discussion of your artistic creations
  • Pursue employment by using advanced artistic knowledge and art skills acquired at Molloy College
