The Gerontology minor offers a 3-credit, 100-hour internship opportunity at the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility. A. Holly Patterson is recognized nationally as a model for skilled nursing facilities. It offers innovative care in an environment that treats the 'whole' person. The skilled and caring medical staff responds to the physical, social and emotional needs of each resident.
Our interns work with the recreational therapy department to improve the lives of residents through field trips, celebrations, and other on site activities.
- Students are also able to choose to work with specialists in other departments based on their interests
- Students have worked in the audiology department, in the dementia unit and with the social work staff
- Students have uniformly raved about their hands-on learning experiences at A. Holly Patterson
Students will also meet regularly with a Molloy College faculty member for an "integrative seminar" to help them to make links between their classroom content and experiential learning. The hours for this internship are flexible, and students can work with the center to develop a schedule that meets their needs. There are weekend and evening hours available. For more information, please visit the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility's website.
