Licensure and Certifications

State Licensure and Certification Disclosures

Professional licensure and certification requirements vary from state to state. Although Molloy University has attempted to provide accurate and timely information by state, educational and other requirements may change. Additionally, many licensure boards require more than successful degree completion to obtain a license. These additional factors may include, but are not limited to, curriculum reviews by the licensing agency, criminal background checks, work experience, professional examinations, and additional training. Therefore, we encourage students to contact the appropriate licensing board or agency where they will seek licensure to familiarize themselves with the state educational and other licensing requirements for the profession or occupation in which they are interested. 

Students should visit the Professional Licensure Directory of the National Council of State Authorization of Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA). 

Completion of these programs meet educational requirements to apply for licensure or certification in the State of New York: 

  • Nursing: all licensure programs
  • Allied Health Sciences: all licensure programs
  • Speech-Language Pathology: ASHA Certification National 
  • School of Education and Human Services: all licensure programs 
  • Accounting BS/MBA and MBA 
  • Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC/CASAC-T)

  • BS, BS/MS and MS in Music Therapy

    The Molloy University's BS, BS/MS and MS programs in Music Therapy programs fulfill the educational and credential requirements for the Music Therapy Board Certification (MT-BC) in all US states/territories. 

    The Molloy University's MS in Music Therapy program fulfills the educational requirements for the Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) only in New York State.

Healthcare: Online Certificate Programs

The following programs may lead toward professional licensure or certification in New York State. The information below reflects whether each program meets the educational requirements for licensure or certification in the specified states and territories. Additional hands-on training is required for most licenses.   • Phlebotomy Technician

    Program: Phlebotomy Technician (Preparation for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT))

    This disclosure is provided to ensure you understand the professional requirements for the field of Phlebotomy. Educational and credentialing requirements vary by state.

    Certification Pathway

    Upon completion of this program, students wishing to sit for the Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam will be required to complete a minimum of 30 venipunctures AND 10 capillary sticks on a live person, which must be completed within 90 days of passing the CPT exam. Certifications are issued once the exam(s) have been passed, and clinical requirements have been met.

    Four states in the continental U.S. currently require or mandate state licensure or national certification for Phlebotomy Technicians.

    For students in all other states, state licensure is not required. However, national certification is widely recognized by the medical industry, and many employers require or strongly prefer national certification as a condition of employment. Students are encouraged to review the requirements of the state in which they intend to work and to consult prospective employers regarding certification expectations.

  • Sterile Processing Technician

    Program: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) Preparation

    This online program prepares you for a career as a Sterile Processing Technician in settings like hospitals, surgery centers, and clinics.

    Program Focus To succeed in this vital healthcare role, you'll master essential skills, including:

    • Medical Terminology: Understand and communicate effectively with clinical staff.
    • Anatomy & Physiology: Grasp the fundamentals of the human body.
    • Sterile Processing Techniques: Learn the core competencies of decontamination, sterilization, and supply management.

    Certification Pathway Upon completion, you will be prepared for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification, a two-step process sponsored by the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA):

    Provisional Certification: Graduates are eligible to take the CRCST exam immediately upon course completion.

    Full Certification: To earn the full, non-provisional CRCST credential, you must complete 400 hours of documented, hands-on experience within six months of passing the certification exam.

    CRITICAL HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

    This online program provides only the didactic (classroom/theory) portion of the training. It DOES NOT provide or guarantee the 400 hours of mandatory hands-on experience required by HSPA to achieve Full CRCST Certification. Students are fully responsible for securing the necessary externship, clinical, or employment experience required to obtain full certification and to qualify for employment.

    States Where This Program Meets Educational Requirements for Certification

    The determinations below confirm that the online curriculum satisfies the necessary educational component for the CRCST certification, which is often required by state law. This determination does not reflect the mandatory 400 hours of practical experience.

    Seven states currently require or mandate national certification for Sterile Processing Technicians. Students seeking employment in those states are required to obtain national certification to meet state regulatory requirements.

    For students in all other states, national certification is not currently mandated by state law.
