Why Study Abroad?

The world that we live in is becoming increasingly inter-connected. Advances in communications and travel have eliminated many of the physical barriers that traditionally have separated people living on opposite ends of the globe. Cultural barriers, too, are gradually being reduced as citizens in different countries throughout the world begin to share technology, engage in global trade and work collaboratively on the world's social and environmental problems. During the next millennium it will become more important than ever for students to develop a global outlook and to demonstrate an ability to work collectively with people from cultures and backgrounds different from their own.

Students who study abroad develop a first-hand understanding of the way other people live and an appreciation for the history and culture of another country that can only come from being submerged within that culture. The international outlook that students who study abroad gain can prove an invaluable asset when applying to graduate school, or for a job after college.

Studying abroad is not just a good investment for the future, it is also an opportunity to gain a unique perspective on one's own life, to reevaluate one's own values and to have a great time while doing
