Journeys to Jamaica:  A Healthy Dose of Culture, Competence, and Compassion

Medical mission, don't know what to expect,
Would I find a country full of neglect?
As the plane draws near and land comes into view,
I find myself asking, what can I do?

...Excerpt from a student's poem

Many medical mission trips are organized after catastrophic events such as hurricanes, earthquakes or tsunamis, or they focus on a single component of healthcare, such as dental care or surgical problems. Molloy University, School of Nursing, runs a different medical mission trip two times per year. Our trips bring together nurse practitioner (NP) faculty and NP and DNP students to collaborate with physicians to deliver primary care. The students on the trip are enrolled in the Nurse Practitioner or Doctor of Nursing Practice Program.
