ONLINE PROGRAM FAQS


What are the goals of this program? 
The online program track will follow the same philosophy, curriculum, and program completion requirements as the hybrid on-campus program track.     

How is this program designed?
All required courses,cognates and the guided dissertation development are offered online.  

How long is it going to take me to finish the program?
The program is offered on a part-time basis. Participants will complete six credits each semester. The cohort-based course work may be completed in three years, followed by the dissertation sequence, which will take a minimum of three additional semesters or one and a half years.

When will the program start?
A new cohort will be begin in the fall session.

Will the program prepare me for school building and school district administrator licensure?
No, the program alone is not designed to prepare candidates for such licensing; however, the SBL/SDL programs offered through our Graduate Education department are aligned with courses in the Ed.D. program. More information about these programs is available upon request.

When will I have a doctoral mentor assigned?
Please see our signature pedagogy, including the multiple mentorship approach.  

I have not been in graduate school for over 15 years. Do you think I can be successful in this program?
The program has rigorous admissions criteria, including a personal statement, written responses to a series of questions and an in-person interview. While we anticipate admission to this program to be competitive and selective, we are confident that our comprehensive approach to candidate selection will result in inviting the best prospective participants to join the program. Length of time elapsed since last attendance in school will not be a selection criterion. 

How many credits can I transfer into this program?
At the discretion of the Ed.D. program director, up to six graduate level credits and three doctoral level credits may be transferred into the Ed.D. program. All transferrable credits had to be completed at the post-Master's level, in a field related to the program focus of the Ed.D. at a nationally accredited institution of higher education within the past five years. A grade of B or higher must be earned for the credits to be accepted.  Our complete transfer credit policy can be found on page 169 of the Graduate Catalog.  

Admissions

I am not a teacher or administrator in the K-12 school system. Will I be considered for admission and will the program meet my needs?
While we anticipate that most participants will be educators in the K-12 context, the program is designed with a broad-based focus on leadership and diversity. Several of our current students come from related fields including social work, mental health counseling, non-for profit community-based organizations, library science, criminal justice, and so on. See program goals and outcomes to determine if this Ed.D. is a viable option for you to reach your professional goals.
