Molloy University’s Third Annual Communication Sciences and Disorders Convention: 
Listening to our Clients: Amplifying Client Perspectives and Values Using Evidence-Based Practice

The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) Department and the Office of Continuing Education at Molloy University are pleased to offer our third one day CSD convention.  

The 2024 convention will offer two options to attend: in-person and virtual through Zoom.

This intermediate level program will provide attendees up to 0.7 ASHA CEUs in the area of speech-language pathology. While all attendees will attend the first 1.5 hours of the program, each attendee will then choose 2, 1.5 hour workshops during the morning and afternoon and attend a panel session for 1.5 hours for the last part of the program. There will also be poster sessions during lunch that participants can earn 1 CE credit for. Therefore, up to .7 ASHA CEUS may be earned.

Speaker Bio
Jennifer Scuro, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Molloy University and is the author of Addressing Ableism: Philosophical Questions via Disability Studies (Lexington Books 2018) and The Pregnancy ≠ Childbearing Project: A Phenomenology of Miscarriage (Rowman & Littlefield International 2017). She completed a certificate in Trauma Response and Crisis Intervention in 2022 and is currently co-authoring research on the intersection of disability and trauma and its implications for ethics and epistemology.

Learning Outcomes

  • Name and explain some ways in which ableism operates as a harmful bias and as it intersects with other kinds of structural and institutional forms of harm.
  • Assess and prioritize the competing, intersectional perspectives and interests of stakeholders in a disability-informed, trauma-informed way, particular to the best care practices and therapeutics of speech and communication clientele.
  • Appraise new and revise current applications of best practices in creative, transformative ways to challenge institutional and cultural operations of ableist bias.

Date and Time
The program will take place on April 5, 2024 with the breakfast, check-in and registration being held from 8:00-9:00 a.m., and the program will begin at 9:00 a.m.

In-Person and Zoom Options
Participants may choose to attend either in-person or remotely through Zoom. There is a separate registration depending upon the format you choose. Please also note that the Zoom option will have a lower rate of tuition than the in-person option because food will not be offered. Zoom links will be sent shortly before the convention date. You must attend in real-time to receive CE credit. The program will not be recorded.

ASHA CEUs
This intermediate level program will provide attendees the opportunity to achieve up to .7 ASHA CEU's in the area of speech-language pathology: (.15 for keynote address; .15 for AM concurrent sessions; .15 PM concurrent sessions, .15 for panel session, plus poster sessions).  This program meets the 2 hour requirement in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. You must attend in real-time to receive CE credit. The program will not be recorded.

If you register for the in-person option the conference check-in, breakfast, keynote, panel discussion, lunch and closing session will be held in the Larini Room of the Public Square building (second floor) at Molloy's Rockville Centre campus located at 1000 Hempstead Avenue, Rockville Centre, New York 11571. Concurrent Sessions
Conference participants will be able to pick from three (3) topics presented during two (2), 1.5-hour concurrent sessions: from 10:40 a.m. – 12:10 p.m. and 1:45-3:15 p.m. The topics can be found above in the section, "Time-ordered Agenda". Participants will be asked to pre-register for the topics that they would like to attend. In-person seating is limited, so please make your selections early.

Molloy's Communication Sciences and Disorders Department continues to offer a comprehensive undergraduate program in Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology and also offers an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology. The M.S. program in speech-language pathology at Molloy College is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Additionally, our Speech, Language and Hearing Center is located off campus in a new facility and continues to serve the community by providing an array of evaluation and treatment services.
