Program Description
This course will explore racially responsive clinical practice through experientials and group discussions. The facilitators will call participants to explore their own sociocultural identity and consider how aspects of race, ethnicity, language and culture intersect at the individual and collective-societal levels, creating advantages and disadvantages across these complex dimensions. This dialogue will be contextualized in light of recent sociopolitical movements and will explore their potential impact on our recipients of care and the therapeutic relationships we seek to cultivate. An exploration of a resistance model and community focused care will also be included.

The course will utilize group discussion, self-reflective experientials, and didactic teaching to explore how cultural humility concepts may be integrated into music therapy practice.
