Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE)

Beginning July 1, 2016, if you hold one of the following certificates, you must register your teaching license with the New York State Education Department (SED) on the TEACH system every five years:

  • Permanent or professional teaching certificate in the classroom teaching service
  • Permanent or professional leader certificate in the educational leadership service (i.e., school building leader, school district leader, school district business leader), or Level III Teaching Assistant certificate

Beginning in the 2016/2017 school year, holders of professional certificates in classroom teaching or educational leadership must complete 100 hours of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) during each five year registration period. Permanent certificate holders do not need to complete 100 hours of professional development every five years.

• ESL or bilingual teachers must complete a minimum of 50% of the required CTLE hours in language acquisition including a focus on best practices for co-teaching strategies.

• All other certificate holders must complete a minimum of 15% of the hours dedicated to language acquisition addressing the needs of ELL learners, including a focus on best practices for co-teaching strategies.

The CTLE professional development hours must be rigorous and completed through a sponsor approved by the State Education Department.

Molloy University is an approved Sponsor of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) by the New York State Education Department (NYSED), sponsor number 23216.

Molloy University offers professional graduate credit courses to meet CTLE requirements in many certification areas throughout the year, as well as graduate credit courses during the summer through the Summer Institutes for Teachers. Conferences and Online Teacher Professional Development courses are also offered throughout the year which meet CTLE requirements.

Each semester-hour of credit taken equals 15 clock hours of CTLE credit. Therefore, a 3-credit graduate course equals 45 hours of CTLE credit. CTLE hours for all non-credit courses and conferences are computed as one CTLE credit hour per 60 minutes of instruction (60 minute minimum).

Certificates of Completion for Conferences and Courses
All education conferences are offered for CTLE credit and the hours awarded will vary depending upon the length of the conference. CTLE certificates of completion are awarded at the conclusion of the conference.

Education courses are also offered for CTLE credit. Upon completion of the course just either call or email Danielle Albanese, our Records Coordinator, at 516-323-3551 email: dalbanese1@molloy.edu and she will mail you out your CTLE certificate.
