Advanced Placement Summer Institute

Cupola atop a building on the Molloy University campus

Molloy University, through the School of Education and Human Services and the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies, offers summer institutes for teachers of Advanced Placement (A.P.) high school courses. Institutes are taught by experienced teachers of A.P. and are endorsed by the College Board.

The institutes are designed to prepare teachers for the College Board's Advanced Placement Curriculum. Participants will gain experience with the concepts and goals of the A.P. courses and their corresponding examinations. The Institutes will address curriculum, pedagogy and technology as supported by national standards and the College Board.

Each workshop will be led by College Board-certified A.P. consultants and will provide participants with the experiences necessary to successfully teach an advanced placement course in their discipline.

AP Summer Institute Scholarships
Each year, the College Board awards scholarships for qualifying teachers to attend an AP Summer Institute (APSI). We also award scholarships to teachers who are required to attend an AP Capstone professional development event. These programs are offered to teachers at schools without funding for professional development, and who meet the specific requirements. Please visit:  APSI Scholarship webpage for further information

Please note that all registrations, either for graduate credit or for non-credit must be done online.

 Registration and  Tuition

Click on the course title(s) above to register.  Please note that all registrations for the year 2025 must be done online. Please also note that the registration process will require that teachers either sign into or create a College Board account with a username, password and other information. Therefore, it is suggested that teachers register for the summer institute themselves rather than have the school district register the teacher.

The A.P. summer institutes may be taken for graduate credit at the reduced rate of $945 per 3-credit institute or on a non-credit basis for in-service credit for $850 per institute.

Each institute is limited to 25 participants.

Qualified applicants will be accepted on a first-come/first-served basis. The registration deadline is three weeks prior to the start date of each institute. Late registration may be possible if space and materials are still available.

You tuition includes:  approved College Board materials and a PDF of handouts from the instructor (depending upon the institute).

Purchase orders are accepted and it is not necessary to have the purchase order accepted by Molloy to begin the registration process. Purchase orders, as well as any questions regarding registration, can be addressed to:

Graduate Credit Option
The Summer Institutes can be taken for 3 graduate credits and are approved as such by the New York State Department of Education. However, registering for graduate credit is a two-step process. You must first register for the course by clicking the course title(s) in the above schedule of the course(s) that you wish to register for. You may do this now to avoid being closed-out of the course. The graduate registration option will be available on or around March 15, 2025. You will be contacted via email regarding the additional graduate credit registration process.

The institutes meet for 45 contact hours, of which 30 hours consist of classroom instruction and 15 hours consist of outside work, including a course project which is due within two weeks of the institute end date. This is the same breakdown of hours for all of our graduate courses that are offered during the fall and spring semesters on a 14-week schedule, the only difference is that the summer institutes are offered on a more intense schedule.

The institutes are all listed with the course code, EDU 5900, which is part of our graduate course offerings in the Division of Education and can be used as an elective towards our Master of Science degree in Education. The general course description can be found on our website at: https://www.molloy.edu/academics/graduate-programs/graduate-education/graduate-level-courses.

Since this is a special topics course, the specific course descriptions differ depending upon the topic. The description of the EDU 5900 courses offered as part of our Summer Institutes can be found by clicking the course title above.

Teachers not currently enrolled at Molloy in a degree program may register for this course as a non-matriculated student. All registrations for graduate credit will be done online. Instructions on how to register for graduate credit will be available on this web page on or around March 15, 2026.
