Please note that all of our courses are still being offered online in real time using  Zoom on the same days and times listed in the schedule of classes and can be taken anywhere in the country!  Instructions for taking the course online will be sent to you by the instructor before the course begins.

Molloy has a student chapter of the Interior Design Society (IDS), a national membership organization. If a student wishes to join the IDS Molloy Student Chapter, they are invited to attend design industry seminars and networking events hosted by the IDS Long Island Professional Chapter. These are available either on Zoom or in person.

The Interior Design certificate program is a course of study designed for those who have a personal interest in the subject, as well as individuals interested in working in the field of interior design and decorating.

The interior design and decorating certificate training will give students the basic skills needed to enter the profession. Career opportunities for interior design and decorating students include:

- Assistant to Building Professionals
- Interior Designers
- Contractors
- Architects
- Starting your own business

A student may work as a sales representative or employee for wallpaper, paint, carpet, lighting, furniture or fabric stores, office furnishings or space planning suppliers.

These courses have been specially designed for those wishing to gain essential skills through an accelerated program. Emphasis will be placed on practical training and development of creativity. A textbook and/or materials may be required in some of the interior decorating certificate courses and will be noted in the course description.

Course and Certificate Requirements:

The program is composed of eight required courses and two elective courses. A student may choose to take more than one course at a time. There are no prerequisites for entry into the program. A certificate of interior design and decorating will be issued by Molloy University after the successful completion of the eight required courses and two elective courses. Completion standards require that a minimum grade of "C" be received and satisfactory attendance maintained in all of the courses. Students should contact the Office of Continuing Education at 516.323.3550 or by email at: conted@molloy.edu at the conclusion of their certificate requirements to have a certificate issued.

Course Descriptions and Schedule of Classes:

Courses are offered in the Fall (October - December), Winter (January - February), Spring (February/March - May) and in the Summer (May - June). Day and evening courses are offered.  Usually three (3) - four (4) required courses are offered  every Fall and Spring semester and one to two (1-2) elective courses are offered in the shortened Winter and Summer sessions.

Registration and Tuition:

Tuition is $295. per course and due at the time of registration. There are no course fees, however, some courses may require materials and/or textbooks, which are the student's responsibility.

Students should register for classes at least one week prior to the start of classes to insure enough time for you to get your confirmation and parking permit. However, you can register up until the day of class. Please note that some of our classes do close out and some of our classes do cancel, so you may be taking a chance of not getting into the course of your choice by waiting.

Online registration is available by clicking here.  You will be able to pay for your classes online by ACH check or by MasterCard, Visa or Discover credit card. If you pay by credit card there will be a fee of 2.75% for domestic cards and 4.25% for international cards added to the tuition. You can avoid the credit card fee by paying with a check online.

  Confirmation of your registration will be emailed to you upon receipt of your registration. Your Zoom link or classroom assignment will be emailed to you shortly before the start date of you class if it was not included in your confirmation.

Interior Design and Decorating Career Seminar  

Do you have a flair for design and decorating and want to take it to the next level? Not sure if interior design and decorating is right for you? Not sure how you can get started and what the requirements are? If so, then this seminar is for you! Marie Byrne, an experienced interior design professional, will offer you real world advice about interior decorating both on a professional level, as well as for personal enrichment. The seminars are usually held 4-5 times per year, in September, January, February and in May from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Molloy's Rockville Centre campus in the Casey Center.

The speakers will offer real world advice about this career and talk about both the satisfactions and challenges of their chosen career. The career seminar is offered at no charge.
