NYS Education Department Clinically-Rich Intensive Teacher Institute in Bilingual Education and English as a Second Language (CR-ITI-BE)
The School of Education and Human Services, in collaboration with the Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies, was the recipient of a five-year NYS Education Department Clinically-Rich Intensive Teacher Institute in Bilingual Education and English to Speakers of Other Languages (CR-ITI-BE/ ESOL) award. Molloy University is one of eleven IHE recipients state-wide. The program partners with nine school districts including Amityville, Bay Shore, Brentwood, Freeport, Patchogue-Medford, Roosevelt, South Huntington, Uniondale, and Westbury.
Eligibility and Admission Requirements
- The CR-ITI-BE/ESOL Program is designed for teachers who already possess a master’s degree and hold an initial NYS teacher certification in one of the following areas:
- Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2)
- Childhood Education (Grades 1-6)
- Middle Childhood Education (Grades 5-9)
- Adolescent Education (Grades 7-12)
- Special Subjects
- Students with Disabilities
- Literacy Education
- For Teachers pursuing a TESOL Certification, they must have at least 12 credits (or the equivalent of study) of a language other than English with a grade of C or better. Note: It is helpful for participants to have at least 6 credits when they apply for the program and finish their credits by the end of the program.
- For Teachers pursuing the Bilingual Extension, they must pass the Bilingual Education Assessment (BEA).
How do you get certified once you have completed the program?
- After successful completion of the program, participants must submit the following information to our Teacher Certification Office via email (teachercert@molloy.edu):
- DASA certificate (or information through the TEACH website),
- Updated Child Abuse workshop (or information through the TEACH website),
- Official transcripts for 12 credits in a language other than English from an accredited college or university (must be official transcripts sent from one IHE directly to Molloy University) – for TESOL only, you do not need language credits for the Bilingual Extension.
- if applicable, proof of name change (ex: marriage certificate)
- Once this information is submitted and verified by Molloy University’s Teacher Certification team, Molloy University’s Teacher Certification Team will provide a recommendation to NYSED on your behalf.
- Please note: The CR-ITI-BE/ESOL Program is a registered program with NYSED with specific requirements. Please DO NOT apply for certification through other programs (ex: Individual Pathway Program) as they may have different requirements.
