Feast of the Pentecost 2016
Scripture: Jn 14:15-16, 23B-26
Jesus said to his disciples:
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
And I will ask the Father,
and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.
"Whoever loves me will keep my word,
and my Father will love him,
and we will come to him and make our dwelling with him.
Those who do not love me do not keep my words;
yet the word you hear is not mine
but that of the Father who sent me.
"I have told you this while I am with you.
The Advocate, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything
and remind you of all that I told you."
On this feast of Pentecost when Our Lord Jesus Christ sends the Holy Spirit upon those gathered in the Upper Room, we are called to realize that He not only sent the Holy Spirit to them, but to the entire Church, to all those who believe. My brothers and sisters, we are never alone, we have the aid of God, the presence of God, the life of God with us at every moment. The Holy Spirit is sent to assist us to "teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you." Ask for the Holy Spirits help. Pray for wisdom and knowledge in the ways of God. Recognize that God, who loves us beyond our understanding will do everything possible to aid those who believe, as he did for St. Isidore. He sent angels to help him in his work. Don't be overcome by stress or anxiety, but let the Holy Spirit calm and refresh you. God has got this (whatever this may be), ask for His help, ask for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and sit back and bask in the Glory of God. God bless, - Fr. Jordan Turano, OP - Molloy College
Saint: St. Isidore, the Farmer
St. Isidore was born at Madrid, Spain, in the latter half of the 12th century. For the greater part of his life he was employed as a laborer on a farm outside the city. Many marvelous happenings accompanied his lifelong work in the fields and continued long after his holy death. He was favored with celestial visions and, it is said, the angels sometimes helped him in his work in the fields. St. Isidore was canonized in 1622.
