The Saint John's Bible conference
The Saint John's Bible conference at Molloy College is on November 21, 2014 from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Madison Theatre at Molloy College.
We are very excited to have at Molloy College two volumes of The Saint John's Bible, the first hand-written illuminated Bible in the past five hundred years. It is truly a magnificent work of art. The calligraphy, painstakingly done by a team of professional calligraphers, took fifteen years to complete. The team was led by Donald Jackson, official calligrapher of Queen Elizabeth II. Artists and theologians worked together to design the illuminations, all original works of art, which are enhanced with gold leaf as a symbol of divinity. The styles of the artists vary, from traditional iconography to modern abstract art.
We invite you to join us on November 21 for a Symposium on the making and meaning of The Saint John's Bible, including an opportunity to view this brilliant masterpiece. Our keynote speakers come from the team that developed this Bible. The Siena Women's Center has chosen to be part of this event to mark the presence of the Saint John's Bible on the Molloy campus. We invite all who regularly attend the Voices of Women Symposium to celebrate the Saint John's Bible on November 21 in lieu of the April Symposium.
