Students Living the Mission at Midnight Run
"Raise the praise, Minimize the criticize, Increase the peace, and Silence the violence!"
These phrases continue to be a favorite for our friends on the street. Actually, it is one of my favorites too. It is hard to believe that for thirteen years we have shared these phrases with the folks on the streets.
Last week was our first Midnight Run this semester with Caldwell University. Thanks to the many donations of clothing and shoes, our friends were very happy and very grateful. They always say "thank you!" They certainly possess an "attitude of gratitude."
We had the opportunity of speaking to Diana. Diana is a middle aged woman who shared with us how frightened she is to go into a city shelter. She claims it is better to be on the streets where she feels safer. Unfortunately, this is how most of the people who live on the streets feel. She was very happy and grateful to receive some warm winter clothes and a warm pair of winter boots.
For a few short hours, our "presence" makes the lives of these people just a little bit brighter and, you know what? ... they make our lives brighter too!
Our next Midnight Run is on Thursday, March 7. We have many blankets, backpacks, gym bags and toiletries to give out. We can always use a monetary donation to help with the cost of food that we need to purchase. Monetary donations can be dropped off at the Campus Ministries Office, Public Square 390.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continued support.
Peace! Sister Diane
