Selecting the right career, taking the necessary courses in high school and selecting the college to prepare you for that career are some of the most important decisions high students and their parents will face. What makes these decisions critical are the economic, educational, and technical changes taking place in today's rapidly changing, competitive marketplace which are all influencing the development of tomorrow's careers. Along with these changes, escalating college costs have made it imperative for students and their parents to begin thinking, planning and preparing systematically for those important educational and career decisions. This event has been designed to help high school students through the process of transitioning from high school to college and to a career.
The program will first present an opening session consisting of a general overview of career opportunities and requirements in the fields of science, health, technology or math. There will then be two half-hour breakout sessions to allow students the opportunity to attend more than one career interest that they may have. The two breakout sessions will each have topics in the following career areas:
Each breakout session will include:
- Coursework needed in high school
- Programs to look for when researching colleges
- Whether an advanced degree is required in the field
- Useful skills and aptitude suggested
- Career opportunities
The program is free and refreshments will be served. However, registration is required. Directions to the campus will be sent with your confirmation, but they can also be found at Rockville Centre Campus directions.
