Molloy Wins Big at Interior Design Competition
On October 10, 2019, the IDS (Interior Design Society) Long Island held its Swatched2019 event at the Fox Hollow in Woodbury, N.Y. From its inception four years ago, students from Molloy College's Interior Decorating Program have participated in the competition. Swatched is a competition where student and professional interior designers have only one hour to complete an amazing design board using materials supplied by the event's sponsors. A group of celebrity designers anonymously judge the boards for their creativity and ability to communicate the designer's concept.
For the fourth year in a row, a Molloy student has won in the student designer category. Jackie McManus won the honors along with a substantial gift card. Competing against seasoned professionals, Irina Nikolaenko, a former student of the program took the first prize in the professional designer category. As the first prize winner, Irina will have a two-page spread in House Magazine and an all expense paid trip and tour of the Mirage Wood Flooring factory in Canada. As Marie Byrne, faculty and IDS Swatched Committee Member stated, "Not only am I proud of the winners but, all the students and former students who put themselves out there to compete." It was an exciting and fun filled evening with part of the proceeds donated to very worthy charities.
