Molloy Student Wins Design Competition
Molloy Continuing Education students in the Interior Decorating Program took part in a design completion, along with interior design professionals in an event hosted by Interior Design Society (IDS) Long Island on October 5 called, "Swatched 2016".
"It was a wonderful fund raiser event for charities, and featured celebrity judges. Contestants were given four materials and were asked to put together a design board in one hour," said Molloy instructor Marie Byrne.
"This is a competition about vision, speed and creativity in the field of interior design, and that is very exciting," says Bonnie Reich, vice president of IDS Long Island. "What makes this event really special is that it supports great causes. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to each celebrity's charity of choice!" Sponsorships support Make a Wish, Diffa, National Kidney Foundation, Hetrick-Martin Institute, Parkinson's Disease Foundation and Pediatric Cancer Research at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
Ten students from the IDS Molloy Student Chapter worked on preparing for the contest by getting together during the summer to hold practices.
"The students were very enthusiastic, and as it turned out, one of our Students, Jill Edwards was the winner in the student category," said Byrne.
"Jill did an amazing job and won an Internship at Floor Décor & Design," said IDS.
