Molloy Softball Team Earns Second Seed in NCAA Region Championship

After posting an overall record of 42-10, and capturing a second-straight East Coast Conference Championship, the No. 25 Molloy College softball team has clinched the No. 2 seed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's East Region Championship.

The Lions are led by ECC Pitcher of the Year Kelley Jansen (Long Beach, N.Y.). Jansen has sported an overall record of 23-7 in 2012, with a 1.32 earned-run average. Offensively, Molloy is paced by All-ECC selections Carla Campagna (Floral Park, N.Y.), Megan Butterworth (Bellmore, N.Y.), Haley Calderwood (Lake Elsinore, Calif.), Jeana Frey (Island Park, N.Y.), and Nicolette Sinagra (Brooklyn, N.Y.).

The Lions completed a school-record 20-game winning streak in 2012, ending the spurt with an overall record of 22-5. On Apr. 21, Head Coach Susan Cassidy-Lyke earned her 200th career victory at the helm of the Molloy softball program.

Molloy will square off on Friday (May. 4) against NE-10 foe Adelphi University at C.W. Post. Adelphi enters the tournament with the No. 7 seed, after posting a 34-18-1 overall mark this season. C.W. Post and Dominican College
