In honor of Women's History Month, the Sandel Senior Center held a luncheon where local women of significance, who have contributed to the history of the Rockville Centre community, are recognized every year.
This year's honoree, Professor Charlotte L. Allen, MSW, is an active member of the Rockville Centre community.
Mayor Francis X. Murray presented Professor Allen with a proclamation for her dedication to the community.
"Charlotte Allen has been a great friend to the Rockville Centre Department of Senior Services and those it serves," said Mayor Murray. "It is my great pleasure to acknowledge her contributions and honor her for them."
Professor Charlotte Allen is the Coordinator of the Gerontology Program at Molloy College. Professor Allen has shown a great passion for enriching the lives of senior citizens, which in conjunction with her strong skills in social work, has led her to develop many important programs at Molloy College.
These include an Annual Diversity Day cosponsored by the departments of Social Work and Gerontology. During her tenure at Molloy College, Professor Allen has been very active in the community.
Currently, she serves as the Acting President of the Nassau County Department of Senior Affairs Advisory Council. In addition to her service to Nassau County seniors, Professor Allen has been very involved in aiding the Rockville Centre Department of Senior Service.
She has coordinated programs between Molloy College and the Sandel Center, taught classes at the Center, and served on the board of directors of the Friends of Senior Services, Inc. (FOSSI). FOSSI is a not-for-profit community group that supports the RVC Department of Senior Services where Professor Allen served as the 2012 President of the FOSSI board.
