Genre-Bending String Quartet ETHEL to Perform at Madison Theatre at Molloy College

Celebrated as America's premier post-classical string quartet, ETHEL brings its distinctively modern and charismatic performance style to the stage at the Madison Theatre at Molloy College on Saturday, March 24, at 8 p.m., presenting an evening of imaginative programming and exceptional artistry that will appeal to a wide variety of audiences.

ETHEL presents the unexpected -- replacing the standard fare with a focus on music of the last four decades, crossing genres and exploring exciting new cutting-edge synergies between tradition and technology, including the use of amplification. Boldly questioning the boundaries between composer, performer and audience, the ensemble has innovatively collaborated with an extraordinary community of American and international artists, including Joe Jackson, David Byrne and Todd Rundgren, among many others.

Formed in 1998 and based in New York City, ETHEL is comprised of Juilliard-trained performers Cornelius Dufallo (violin), Dorothy Lawson (cello), Jennifer Choi (violin) and Ralph Farris (viola).

Performing original music as well as works by notable contemporary composers, ETHEL has toured the world, appearing on stages as varied as Joe's Pub in Manhattan; Venice Biennale; Sydney Opera House; Lincoln Center; Kennedy Center; FIAC in Guanajuato, Mexico, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.  ETHEL has released several acclaimed albums since its debut, self-titled ETHEL (Cantaloupe Music, 2003), which was named one of Billboard's Best Albums for that year.

ETHEL also inspires emerging talent across the country through commissioning projects and unique education activities, including their work in Navajo and Hopi schools as Quartet in Residence with the Native American Composers Apprenticeship Project (NACAP) since 2005.
